I moved to Cincinnati 3 years ago from Baltimore, MD. My wife and I came to this place 2 years ago on a trustworthy friend's recommendation. Thai food has been a staple in our diet for years . . . and we love it! That being said, 2 years ago when we ate here, after trying a variety of dishes between the 2 of us, I could say I enjoyed the food - not amazing, but certainly top 2 of the 7 Thai places I've been to in Cincinnati. Today, I was in the area with some friends, one of whom mentioned Thai food; naturally, my craving was awakened and my heart started pumping red curry through the veins. When we arrived, I picked up the lunch menu, which had the red curry WITH BEEF priced at $6.95, and with other meats/seafood, $7.95. I wanted NO meat, just veggies. I assumed it would be the cheaper of the 2 prices, or maybe even less - common sense, since animals cost more than veggies, and including neither is cheaper than including either ;) When I was told I was being charged $7.95, I respectfully disputed quoting the price in the lunch menu. Her rebuttal: "Our prices just went up", which I understand; I hadn't been in there for 2 years. But, again citing the price in the menu, I was disrespected with this defense: "Our customers know our prices." Normally, I would walk out. But today, I wanted some Thai food. And remembering that the food was satisfactory, I decided to order. We were walking out of the door within 5-10 minutes of ordering; that's a +. When I got home and opened the container . . . It proved to be a styrofoam tray of semi-spicy disappointment :( The food was bland, there was a good spit's worth of sauce, and the veggies were cooked to a colorless, tasteless, pile of soggy mush! I've had tap water with more flavor! (for better, or for worse) Now, maybe it was just a bad batch, or perhaps the poorly prepared dish was an expression of their disapproval of my asking for the marked price for my food. I don't know. I do realize we pay more for convenience than for food when we eat out - I mean, for the $8 I spent, I can add $2 and get a bag of rice, some fresh veggies, a jar/can of red curry sauce, and help my wife prepare a whole pot of this stuff! Of course, that takes time that we don't have, sometimes. Anyway, kudos to the people who enjoyed their experience here recently. But to me, the food and the service just...
Read moreI love Thai food and normally go to the critically acclaimed Thai Taste on Crookshank. However, I wanted to take my husband somewhere nice and different so we came here. The appearance of the restaurant could use a little cleaning up; there are paper notifications kept under the glass of each table, which was odd. Also, the door hit me in the back on the way in because it swings shut quickly, so this needs to be fixed!
Thai Namtip has a few vegan and gluten-free options, as is to be expected, but they are not marked. Still, it was refreshing to see some options that were different. The waitress was extremely friendly and always had a smile on her face, which I loved! The food was delicious and hot and came out extremely quickly. The biggest issue I have with Thai Namtip was the proportions of its dishes. The meals were comparatively priced to Thai Taste, yet there was about 40-50% of the food. It came out in these bowls that were comparative to a salad bowl and that was all you got (excluding rice, but those proportions were halved as well). So while the food was delicious, it was also expensive given how little of it there was. For this reason alone, we probably won't come back.
I hope Thai Namtip will improve on these things. If they do, they would definitely be in the running for the best Thai restaurants...
Read moreOriginal Review (over a year ago) We had lunch to go. However picked it up The atmosphere was nice, the employees were nice. From the time of order to the time we got the food was fairly quick about 15 minutes. I got three flavor fish, and my wife got chicken pad Thai, and I got hot and sour seafood soup. My wife’s was one in spicy from 1 to 10 and I got 5 in the range of 5 to 10. Over all the food was good, could’ve been more flavorful, I don’t think mine was really a 5 in spicy level, I’ll change it to a 7 next time. I would still go back and try other items though. Overall it was pretty good.
Updated Review 01/13/2024 We dined in the restaurant this time; Thursday afternoon about 2:00pm. Nice amount of traffic, a few tables, and several takout orders were picked up while we ate.
I had Namtip Tai Spicy (spice level 8 our of 10) It was amazing! I enjoyed it, very flavorful and I would order it again. I ordered a lunch portion and I'm a big guy so next time I'll get the dinner portion.
My Niece and her wife got a Bento Box and Something with Rice Noodles and Tofu and they both loved it as well. They got the lunch portion sizes and thought the portion was just fine.
I had to update my review from a 4 to a 5 because of how much we...
