A Disastrous Dining Experience at Wild Ginger Asian Bistro
My wife and I recently had the misfortune of dining at Wild Ginger Asian Bistro in Lancaster, Ohio, and it was, without a doubt, one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've ever had.
Ambiance and Cleanliness: Upon our arrival, we both noted the “rustic” exterior (as real estate agent Marge Simpson would say). It looks like they haven’t updated or upkept the building since the 1970s. When we entered, we were immediately struck by the lackluster ambiance with décor that felt both dated and uninspired. To make matters worse, I managed to trip over the step leading to the raised dining area, which seats maybe two dozen people (not including the bar). Perhaps there's more seating somewhere else in the restaurant, but we didn’t see any. The entire setup felt cramped and poorly thought out, adding to the overall disarray.
Service: The service was abysmal. We were seated promptly (it wasn’t busy), and our drink order was taken. This experience was extraordinary, though not in a good way: instead of simply writing down or remembering our order, the server turned toward the bar (no more than a dozen feet away) and yelled our order to the kitchen staff in her native language. This became the standard for every interaction we had, each time shouting orders across the restaurant rather than addressing us directly or with any semblance of professionalism.
If that wasn’t distressing enough, I had ordered a lemon-lime soda. However, after another long wait, I was presented with tap water instead. When our server finally passed by again, I politely requested the correct beverage, only to receive yet another glass of tap water. After a third attempt, my wife intervened, only to witness the server fail to deliver the correct drink once again. The staff’s complete indifference to our concerns and their total lack of courtesy made what should have been a simple dinner an aggravating ordeal.
Food: If you’ve read this far and can believe it—we haven’t even gotten to the most egregious part of our experience yet! The food wasn’t just bad; it was an insult to the concept of preparation itself. In fact, it seemed as though the kitchen staff was unprepared to serve anything resembling a decent meal. My wife ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice, and it was a complete travesty. The few shrimp (a meager three) were scattered on top of a humongous mound of rice that could hardly be called "fried." As for my “Sizzling Steak,” it would more accurately be titled “Overwhelming Onions.” I found four or five slivers of meat buried beneath a mountain of onions and a few lonely red peppers. It was almost as if the chef had a deep personal grievance against anyone expecting a well-balanced plate.
Overall: I would strongly advise anyone considering dining at Wild Ginger Asian Bistro to think twice. Our experience was nothing short of disastrous, and we will certainly not be returning. There are many other dining options in Lancaster that offer far superior food, service, and value. Wild Ginger Asian Bistro needs a serious overhaul in every aspect of its operation before it can even begin to call itself a reputable dining...

Despite being there 60 minutes before closing the staff quickly and courteously seated us and had our drink orders within seconds. Within two minutes our drink orders were filled and we were ready to place our appetizer order for Sashimi Salad.
The Sashimi salad, made of thinly (but not too thinly) slices of tuna, salmon, and white tuna sashimi and served on top of mixed greens was a great treat for our party of three to share, and everyone loved the pepper dressing. The attentive staff noticed when we were about 3/4 done and came to place our entree order.
For our entrees we each ordered a specialty roll of sushi: the Tsunami Roll, Mars Roll, and the Angry Bird Roll. Since the portion size was great (not too much or little) we shared from each others plates because each individual loved what they had ordered.
The Angry Bird Roll is a tempura shrimp wrapped with cucumber and avocado and topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo and sriracha sauce. The ingredients were fresh and the flavor excellent. This is a great roll for people that have difficult with chop sticks because you can grasp the roll by the shrimp tail.
The Mars Roll is crunchy spicy lobster, topped with salmon, tuna and spicy mayo. The person that ordered this was reluctant to share.
The Tsunami Roll is what I personally ordered and loved! The Jalepenos weren't too hot, and weren't from a jar or can. They had a great crunch to them that complimented the pepper dew and red pepper. The cucumber and peppered tuna and avocado inside had a great texture as well. Topped with spicy mayo and wasabi mayo it was a great combination of flavors.
The restaurant itself was clean and quite. The parking lot to the side could be lit a little more. The staff were professional and prompt. The price point was excellent given the quality of the dining experience and excellence of food and the promptness in which it was served. Overall a great experience and it will be my go to next time I am in...
Read moreThis place is a tough one to review. I feel like 5 is a little too generous but 4 is too harsh, honestly I wish I could give it a 4.5. The food here is amazing and it's hands down the best sushi in town. If I was just rating the food I would be happy to give this place 5 stars. The service is where things get a little rocky. I will say they are MUCH better than they used to be. Sadly their online ordering apparently stopped working correctly at some point causing me to have to reorder my food in person when I was supposed to be picking it up. I have called to place orders a handful of times and never been told how long it'll take. I always give them 10 to 15 minutes and that's been enough time so far but an estimate would still be nice. In the past I've ordered large amounts of sushi and their online ordering always tells you it'll be ready in 15 minutes but a big order of sushi (6 to 8 rolls) will take longer than that. In the past I've had to wait almost an hour for it, however that was a long time ago and they seemed to have improved so I'm not going to hold that against them in this review. I would just say if you're going to order more than 3 or 4 sushi rolls you'd probably be better off calling in your order and asking when you should pick it up. Like I said I'd really like to give this place 4.5 stars but I had to go with 4 or 5. A few months ago I would have gone with an even lower rating but I honestly think they are making a lot of progress in improving everything so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one with a 5. Just call to place your order and you won't...
