Don Rigo Mexican Restaurant is probably one of the most more authentic Mexican restaurants that I've been to since I used to live around the Schaumburg, IL area. Up there you can find really authentic Mexican food, you can find just about any kind of authentic food that you are looking for because it's so close to downtown Chicago! My ex-husband and I were always looking for that "PERFECT MARGARITA!" So, therefore we were ALWAYS going out to Mexican Restaurants on the weekends. I remember one place that we went to we both asked for a "Jumbo Margarita" - boy was that a HUGE MISTAKE! LOL! When our Server brought us our drinks we both looked at each other and just started laughing! These Jumbo Margaritas looked more like FISH BOWLS on a large stick! OMG! We ordered our dinner but, neither one of us were actually able to finish our drinks! (This was a FIRST time for both of us - we usually could drink 2 Jumbo's at other restaurants that we had been to but, NOT at this particular place!) So, we had FINALLY found the perfect Margarita and the food was just as good as the drink! Now, getting back to Don Rigo's - I didn't order a Jumbo Margarita but, what I got definitely qualified as a JUMBO! I enjoy eating chips and salsa before I actually eat my meal so, I told them that I would let them know when I was ready to order. (I actually eat very slow and it drives my family NUTS but, I've ate this way my entire life! LOL!) I ordered two shredded beef enchiladas and it comes with rice and beans. I asked for sour cream on the side - I always do this because I KNOW that I'm not going to be able to finish my meal there! Before my meal came, I asked for another Margarita - I was actually celebrating my birthday a day late. I failed to mention that I was sitting at the bar, this way because I'm by myself - I'm not taking up an entire table. I was chatting with someone sitting beside me and they got up to use the bathroom. The Bartender heard me mention that I was celebrating my birthday and he asked me if I would like a shot on the house for my birthday? I told him, only if he did it with me. So, he told me that he would but, since he was working he could only have a small one! He poured me a shot of Tequila and we put them back together - I've NOT had a shot of Tequila for probably 17 years but, it was GREAT! My food was delicious, it reminded me of being back in Schaumburg - that was 30 years ago! Even the inside of the place reminded me that time, being in an authentic Mexican restaurant! If you really want to eat good Mexican food and feel like you are there for the moment... I suggest you check out Don Rigo's in Greenfield, IN....
Read moreI previously loved this restaurant. My family, friends, and staff frequently had lunch and dinner here. In fact, gave it formerly 4 stars. That said, today I went for a business lunch, at my suggestion, and it just happened to be my birthday. We had a large group (10) and as a kind gesture, a team member informed the staff it was my birthday. Following our meal, a noisy but festive group of employees came out. In a whirlwind, I was surrounded and wearing a comically large hat. While I was embarrassed, it was the thought that counts- right. So I sat patiently, waiting for the scene to end. I was pleasantly surprised by a dessert topped with whipped cream and sprinkles- perhaps worth the embarrassment- however it was short lived. Shortly after an employee grabbed my head and smashed the whipped cream in my face... forcing whipped cream all over my face, glasses, and up nose. Perhaps this is something that is acceptable practice to some but I felt it rude and unacceptable. I don't plan to return and certainly won't encourage others to go either, especially for important or significant events. I hope this restaurant understands it is not appropriate to put your hands on a customer and certainly not compound that situation by smashing anything in their face. I assure, I...
Read moreWe were there on a Saturday night. We got set at a table in the bar. We were not greeted promptly. We ordered margaritas and waited again for delivery. The server asked if we were ready to order, and since it was our first time in the restaurant, we were not. The drinks were delicious. We decided to get an order of queso to go with our chips. Our server was behind the bar and we had to stare him down to get his attention. We ordered the queso and it was delivered relatively quickly. Then the server went behind the bar again and it was impossible to get his attention. We stared him down again and ordered our entrees. Then all of the servers and bussers and even someone we thought was a manager commenced to gamble at the end of the bar. There were dice being rolled, many bills on the bar, and the kind of noise you would expect from a casino. It was completely inappropriate for a professional restaurant. Also, no one was served or catered to for about 5 minutes. The food was amazing. The service and...
