Hoba Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Greensboro

Went here to try out something different near one of the businesses I manage. Ordered two classic sushi rolls for their special of 8.25. They are usually 5.50 each. Either way a good deal but cheap sushi always has a caveat. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon smelled a little fishy and was a meat mixture not a pure raw fish filling. So it was ok but not what I expected. The salad was just lettuce on a flat plate with ginger dressing on top. Having a sushi lunch for 10.95 with salad and water was not bad. The stomach discomfort of eating cheap sushi will keep me from doing it again. Not food poisoning or anything just gas from the fish mixture.

The atmosphere is bland. The interior is worn just like most inexpensive hibachi restaurants. The service is not great, just a little disorganized. Two different people took our drink order but took 15 min to get them.

The hibachi at the next couple of tables looked ok, didn’t try anything though.

Waitress was very nice. Horrible manager. Waitress mess up my order and decided to give us free lemonade for my children whose order she got wrong. My ticket total was $30. I gave her my card and when she bought back my receipt she charged $34. I asked why did the amount change assuming it was for the tip but she said it was because her manager added on 1 lemonade and proceeded to give me $2 in cash. So I asked her where the other $2 was she came back with another dollar hoping to settle this matter. So I handed her back the money and asked her to have the manager to come over. The manager comes over and the first thing out of her mouth is she didn’t tell me what was going on. No apology nothing. Just a I can refund the entire amount back to your card and charge you the correct amount. But I don’t trust you people with my card so no give it to me in cash. Hoba used to be amazing. The owners seem to have changed within the last 6 months or so because the food suddenly lost its spark. The egg rolls used to be the best I've ever had but now they seem smaller, not as fresh. I always order the steak rare and it was always perfectly tender and rare but now it is always well done and kind of chewy. My 6 yr old loved the hibachi soup but recently told me it tastes weird. For something like the hibachi steak/shrimp to cost $20 and be kind of blah after being amazing is just disappointing. I can get average hibachi from somewhere less expensive.

Also, it's really annoying that if you try to order from the lunch menu on the website, it won't let you if the order won't be ready before lunch hours are over. If I'm placing the order before lunch hours end, the lunch price should apply. It shouldn't be based on when the order...
