In my review of Ilobasco Restaurante and Pupuseria, I mentioned authentic ethnic cuisine vs Americanized. Ilobasco is authentic Salvadorean and a diamond in the rough if there ever was one.
I have another one for you.
La Casita Mexican Antojitos is a place that serves Mexican food that is as authentic as it is delicious.
One metric by which you can judge both authenticity and excellence of a restaurant is by observing the patrons. I went to La Casita two days in a row, and dined (socially distanced, of course) with probably 35 other people. Every single person appeared to be hispanic; I was the only white person in the place (no problem—soy de Miami). I say this as evidence of La Casita’s authenticity. The folks that eat here know what authentic and delicious Mexican food is, and they come here by the score.
Because it is delicious.
And real.
You place your order at the counter, which can be a bit of a challenge if you do not speak Spanish, especially when everyone is wearing a mask, and then they bring your food to the table.
I had the tacos, tostadas, and the choriqueso dip.
Tacos: beautifully seasoned beef in a FRESH, soft tortilla topped with cilantro and onion and served with a lime wedge. No cheese, gringos.
Tostadas: delicious, crispy tortilla generously topped with seasoned beef, tomato, black bean purée, lettuce, queso fresco, and a drizzle of sour cream. One word: fantastic.
Choriqueso: again, delicious, and served with the freshest chips imaginable. The chorizo was phenomenal.
As I walked up to pay, I saw a gentleman who had a large bowl of seafood soup before him. It looked positively delicious, reminiscent of the one I had at Ilobasco a few months ago.
So if you want the awesome taste of authentic Mexican food, I enthusiastically...
Read moreI’m very disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant. The service was terrible. We ordered a specific dish, but they brought us something completely different. When I politely pointed out the mistake, the lady at the counter started arguing with me instead of fixing the issue. She even said she would pull up the camera footage to prove her point. When she finally did, the audio wasn’t clear, so it didn’t clarify anything about what I had ordered. Instead of resolving the issue, she doubled down on blaming me. To make matters worse, we were charged for all the dishes, including the ones we didn’t order or want. As she walked away with the unwanted dishes, she even rolled her eyes, which was incredibly rude and unprofessional. We ended up leaving everything behind because of how poorly the situation was handled. It was a complete waste of money and an embarrassing experience. We’ve always enjoyed this place, but after this, I doubt we’ll be back. If you value good service and accountability, I’d think twice before...
Read moreMe and a group of friends went to eat there on saturday. For starters, the aguas and chips took a while to get here. The guacamole tasted like garlic, which is something i’ve never seen before. Definitely not good. I got the chilaquiles and the salsa was too spicy for me to eat it. Another one of my friends got a carne asada and his carne was a little raw. The quesabirrias had a weird flavor as well. I felt horrible leaving so much food but no one finished her plate. The biggest shock was that it cost $170 total. The food does not match the price. You can go to a nicer restaurant for the same price. They also don’t have a current inspection. The last one is from October 2023. The aguas were...
