I went here on June 2 for dinner. Everything doesn’t taste seasoned. It just tastes like it needs more love. Very watered down Mexican food.
The menu is simple and easy to navigate. I had the birria tacos. The birria tasted like a broth. It had no seasonings in it and just tasted like it was a premade watery beef broth.
The actual tacos were OK. The shells tasted like they were freshly fried, but the inside had unseasoned, dry meat and melted cheese but no queso fresco on top. Honestly this is the most watered down birria I’ve had here.
The chips with the spicy salsa were good. The chips taste fresh.
My stomach was very upset for a day after eating this food. I think the meat was not fresh.
The Birria fries were not very good. The fries were unseasoned a little to no salt and no spice. The toppings just tasted like they were frozen/not fresh.
I tried two different margaritas and both tasted like it was from a premade margarita packet. It tasted like lime juice with a packet of mix. I honestly did not taste any alcohol in the margaritas.
Honestly, the place is decorated nicely, but this is one of the saddest Mexican restaurants I’ve ever had in the Greenville area -will not...
Read moreDelicate genius burrito joint serving some really meh food to other delicate geniuses. Based on a single experience - which I don’t like to do - but not willing to return. My “pastor” burrito was a big slug of mushy flavorless rice, few beans and bits of stuff with rare occurrences of some tiny chunks of gray flavorless pork. Just crap. Their hot sauce is pretty good. This is another OMG OMG JAMES BEARD FINALIST OMG!!!!!1!! situation and particularly in a compromised market like Greenville that will skew people away from rational assessment. I’m sorry but if my Abue served me a burrito like I had, I’d smile politely and look for some better burrito recipes. Of course you are paying for the James Beard nonsense in a low overhead, mediocre service storefront and MUCH better food available all over town at better price points. Features perhaps the loudest, chip crunchiest dining area in...
Read moreI was really excited about Comal 864, but was disappointed. It’s counter service, not sit-down, which is fine, except we waited 20 minutes just to order when there was only 3 parties ahead of us. After ordering, I was disappointed to find the “queso” was just nacho cheese(like the kind you’d get at a carnival), and the chips were stale. The salsa was fine, not the best, but not the worst. We asked for more chips(they give you about a dozen INDIVIDUAL chips), and the staff member forgot about it until about 30 minutes after we asked. On the topic of waiting, after we sat down, it took 30+ minutes to bring our food, making the total wait almost an hour for a counter-service restaurant. The food was decent, but we were a little disappointed considering people told us it was the best in Greenville. Atmosphere was horrible, plain concrete walls and wires everywhere. We probably won’t be...
