Hate to be a naysayer, but this place will not survive more than a year without some changes. (sorry, but I have a pretty good radar on this as does a friend of mine who’s been to Other Lands— including other places besides South Carolina — I’ve been to breweries, e.g. Birds fly south, and thought “I like what they’re doing but they just don’t have very great beers“….and then those places go out of business :-(.
I love your values/mission for community and your values and you have a great indoor and outdoor space. But to state it plainly to Other Lands: unless You expect the wealthy crowd in North Main to patronize you EVERY day for a LONG time (not likely), you will fail unless you change your serving size and price. The beer I had was decent (my ultra-experienced friend said her beer was mediocre), but paying $7 or & $9 for a 13oz beer is not sustainable.
I have had over 1300 unique beers, so no matter what you believe about how great your beers are, your confusing price structure and less-than-pint-size beer servings will bring about your demise unless you make some changes very soon. Believe me, I would like to see you succeed. However unless you hear this in this public space (even if I say it to your face at the counter you probably won’t hear it), but please listen well. I would like you to succeed, you are in my neighborhood I want an option like yours.
As such, I don’t want to read about your obituary 12 months from now— not to mention all the money you and your investors will lose. Note to investors: help other lands succeed, but without expecting a super quick return via over-priced offerings in this early stage
That’s...

Read moreWhen I first heard whispers of Otherlands I was stoked. A good place to grab beer, coffee and some light bites? Perfect. To top it all off, the beer was phenomenal the first couple times I went. Unfortunately, things taken a bit of a turn as they’ve progressed. I’m starting to think the long term goal of this place is to be an event space as there is rarely a night without some sort of event. Whether it be SpongeBob night, Lana Del Rey night, a buttrock DJ night, yoga, a night market or the place is literally closed to the public for a private event, there seems to always be some sort of deterrent. I’ve showed up on multiple occasions now just to walk out and drive up the road to a spot with worse product, because there’s been a loud DJ in the corner and my friends and I can’t have a conversation without shouting over each other or the place was rented out for the night.
A good product will bring people into this space. The product is there. Predictability is key for a neighborhood spot like this - and predictability is the exact thing that this place lacks. I would by all means be a regular here, if I could show up and know that I could grab a beer, hang with some friends and have a nice chill time, damn near every time. Unfortunately that’s not the case anymore and I really hope they can come to realize that their events might actually be pushing more people out than they’re...
