Hard to find affordable and good sushi restaurant near New Haven, so I came all the way down here because this place had stellar ratings.
I can guarantee that I have eaten sushi/sushi rolls at least 1000 times in my life and never have I ever seen a place that puts tempura INSIDE the spicy tuna mix/filling. 🤦♂️🤦♂️Not sure who thought it was a good idea since tempura mixed with the filling only made the tempura soggy and the sushi just greasy. They should have at least written it down on the menu, or asked/notified in advance that there is tempura inside (Isn’t that not obvious? Tempura is gluten.) No such sign/warning whatsoever.
It wasn’t just the spicy tuna mix, but all other sushi was purely bad and not fresh. Had few pieces and couldn’t finish. Server didn’t care to ask why I left so much food. Server was hardly around actually, when there were only 3 tables filled.
Still trying to figure out why/how this place is 4.7. Would only recommend to...
Read moreFood - 5/5 - The food is very fresh. You can tell things haven't been sitting around all day. Great taste and flavors. The menu has a lot to choose from and they don't specialize in one area. Sushi, noodles, hot apps, cold apps, salads....they're all great. And they are consistent with their quality. Everytime we come back, the food is just as good last time.
Service - 5/5 - Service is fast. The servers are pleasant and always checking in. Food comes out relatively quick, and is always fresh. The owners are great and very pleasant to talk to. You can tell they put a lot of work into the establishment.
Ambiance - 5/5 - Great atmosphere. Lots of room. You can sit at the sushi bar or at a table. The chairs are comfortable. Decor is very nice. It doesn't get too loud that you can't hear the people at you table. Very clean.
Overall, great restaurant. I've been there a few times, and every time they deliver. Great food for the cost. Highly...
Read moreI just tried this place for the first time. I was excited to try because it seemed authentic and thought it would be better than other japanese restaurants in the area. the edamame was bland and tasted like literal dirt.. idk how else to explain that. the pan fried gyoza wasn’t horrible, it was okay. the pineapple fried rice was not my cup of tea. It had a curry seasoning on it? which is fine, but it wasn’t listed that way on the menu so I was surprised and didn’t like it at all. I called the store, sharing that I just picked up and explained the situation. they agreed to deliver me a “regular vegetable fried rice with adding pineapple”. It never came. On top of that, when I tried to clarify that the fried rice would be fried regularly with soy sauce, they said they don’t do that..? Am I lost? Isn’t this how you make fried rice? please correct me if I’m wrong. Regardless, food was terrible, service was obviously worse....
