Horrible service that unfortunately ruined the outlook on Grimes as a whole!
My family came up from Texas for the 4th of July and we decided we all wanted to get together and go out to dinner. Knowing we had 20ish people in our group we knew to call beforehand. 3 of our initial ideas couldn’t hold us which is completely understandable considering it’s a large group with only 2-3hrs notice. We found Food Depot Bar & Grill and called asking if we’d all be able to go in. They said it’d be no problem as they had a party room available. As soon as we got there we weren’t given any attention until about 10min of waiting at the hostess station. We were greeted with smug faces and noses pointed up at us from BOTH patrons AND our hostess AND waitress. Couldn’t tell ya honestly if it was due to the fact we were a larger group or the fact that we were a large HISPANIC group in a very Anglo area but the vibes seemed odd from the jump. We were eventually acknowledged by the hostess and was told to go to the back, not shown or walked to, but TOLD! We were seated at a row of tables with menus and waters waiting for us. Our sole waitress took all of our orders and when we tried to make it simpler by ordering the food going on each ticket, she said she’d handle it all the end and she’d separate them herself. As each order was taken, not one of us were asked about drinks, which confused half of our table as some were waiting to be asked rather than having to tell. A little over 60min later our 5 fried appetizers came to the table from the food runners. Our waitress was nowhere in sight so we couldn’t get any plates to share nor were we able to get any more than the 12 silverware bundles at the table. We literally passed each basket around the table and whoever wanted a bite had to grab one item and pass it on. Another 45min later we saw our waitress and she informed us our food would be out in 10min. Being so frustrated we asked the food runners what was going on and they informed us our ticket was just getting to the cooks. We were beyond upset. We decided to just leave. I spoke with the cooks and food runners before going and they informed us that our server was their management(may i remind y’all, we saw a total of 3 times). The food runners and the cooks were the ONLY ones who apologized and were the ONLY ones requesting we come back another time. (Shoutout to the cook with the purple bandana and food runners, the guy with the red mullet and gal with the brown mesh cap)
It’s sad to see that the youngest and hardest workers were doing their best to keep the hospitality up when the front workers and “management” could seemingly care less. So without any vouchers, coupons, any requests to come back, or even a mere apology, we had given up and left!
To save yourself the time and trouble, I’d definitely NOT recommend even considering going out there. It completely ruined my Texas family’s viewpoint on that side of town. We ended the night with some good ole Bbops and a side of confusion of what had...
Read moreOur Minnesota supper club quest continues on. We’ve searched high and low for them, and we’ve tried many. This one jumped near the top of our list! The only thing we found daunting was how extensive the menu is. We couldn’t decide, and we wanted it all!
🎣 Every supper club has fried walleye and we’ve gotten an order at each supper club. This one was, by far, the best. So piping hot, light light batter, flavorful, crispy, just yuuuuum! We got walleye and walleye fingers appetizer to share. Excellent!
🧅 This was my least favorite. Not much flavor IMO. Scraped out the cheese like a good Midwesterner would and called it good.
🧀German Beer Cheese - likely one of the best cheese soups we’ve had. Creamy and hearty, delicious!
This place needs a soup flight with all the varieties of homemade soups!!
🐮 Waygu Works burger was a basic steak burger but on steroids. Local Waygu was so tender and juicy! Hot fries and it was just the perfect steak burger.
🧈Butternut Squash ravioli was a little too sweet on the sauce. The ravioli was great, but the sauce was very sugary. This would be much better in a light butter or olive oil sauce, spinach, diced tomatoes, something like that, IMO. The squash ravioli with squash sauce was too…squashy? Couldn’t taste anything but squash.
🥩 Filet Mignon Oscar style, served with Lobster mashed potatoes, topped with Alaskan snow crab bearnaise sauce and asparagus was OH MY GAHHHH! Couldn’t get enough. Everything about this dish was fantastic!
🐄 Waygu chopped steak dinner was tasty as well. We originally were served the Waygu Chicken Fried steak but it was corrected quickly. We tasted both but agree that the chopped steak dinner itself was awesome. So tender and delicious!
🔑 Lime pie has a cornflake and buttery crust, fantastic.
🎃 Cheesecake was so creamy, and just the right amount of pumpkin.
This place jumped right up on our list of Minnesota supper clubs, and though this place is a supper club + more, it still gives the supper club food, feel and experience.
Chef Jeff - the owner, culinary chef trained in NYC, brings a personal touch by walking around and introducing himself. Service was fabulous as well. We love this place and hope...
Read moreWe went to this place based on the great reviews I read, what am I missing here? The atmosphere is blah, we ordered a couple cheese burgers ( they add a $1 for cheese) and the burgers were gross. Frozen THIN patties oversaturarated with salt and grease, my bottom bun was absolute mush and my patties was a bit undercookedfor me but I will say the waffle fries( with a side of ranch for 52 cents) were pretty good. Very disappointing based off "other" reviews. The only reason we checked out this place is because we were just around the corner at BattleHawk checking out the new Jacob Grey coming out soon, the finest handgun I ever laid my hands on 🥺 Seriously, I wanted to cry. If only I had $5800 ( heavy sigh) If you wanna eat the best Smashburger in the State of Iowa, you'll find them in a coffee shop in Bondurant, Somewhere in the Middle. Hands down the BEST! And at half the cost. FRESH EVERYTHING, even the buns are made fresh. The fries are amazing too. So take yourself on a little road trip to Bondurant. But the bad thing is you can only get them at a specific window time. I really don't understand how some bar/grill/ restaurants keep their head above the water when their food...
