This place was the perfect for a date night! It was small and intimate which I loved! They offer live jazz which is why I had to try this place out. The performer for the evening Dave Bennett was worth seeing. This was my first time visiting this restaurant and my evening was amazing. You do have to make a reservation for seating. When you get there seating is first come first serve (with a reservation). The appetizers came out first. I tried their Tenderloin Burnt Ends which were perfectly cooked and came on a glaze that offered a sweet taste. Next was their Crab Cakes which were good (I wished they were a little crispy and had more flavor) so I wouldn’t order again. They offered complimentary bread and butter. I tried their tomato bisque which was delicious, the butter that with that bread was good (it was butter with herbs). I had also tried their house salad, it was just salad. For my meal I had their Salmon Fillet. It came with Fingerling Potatoes and Asparagus. The top of the Salmon Fillet was crisp, and it offered lots of flavor. (Pictured is their Chicken Protein Bowl, I didn’t tried this but my spouse said all the flavors came together well). I give this place a 5/5. The atmosphere was very nice, it had a very classy vibe. I cannot wait to visit again, our server Paul was also great and on the job.

I had a rare experience here to say the least. It was excellent and totally unexpected! I can tell you that this is one of those precious gems and a top notch venue. The Jazz was excellent and the vibe was great! The thing I really liked about this place was that it is a dinner party type place where you can go early and enjoy dinner (5-6 pm or later) and the food is 5 star! The menu is short and sweet and the Chef runs an epic presentation on all sides. The service is stellar and all of the staff is right on their game. I suppose the owner would have it no other way, since I sat next to her at the bar. I arrived without a reservation and got lucky to find a seat. (This is not recommended, you should reserve in advance). I had the Walleye for dinner and it was excellent. Gretchen Valade (Carhartt) was a gracious host and has a passion for Jazz music that is evident. Quite a lovely and surprise experience for me. Going back very soon!

Despite not making our reservation, our experience was still amazing. We couldn't catch the show inside, but we had a fantastic time enjoying the great tunes and having dinner together outside on the patio. The food was delicious, adding to the overall enjoyment of our evening. I got short-rib bolognese with a caeser salad. The bolognese was very flavorful and good, but it did feel weird eating bolognese with short-rib lol. The salad wasn’t the best, didn’t really taste like anything. The bread…eh. However, the star of the show were the duck fat fries!!! OMG! Five guys fries are amazing but these tasted like an upgraded version! Our server was a sweetheart as else!

8/9/25: First I'll say this; if you plan to come here, GET A RESERVATION! They have a couple of bar seats that anyone can use, but place seems always packed, so its a gamble to not have one. On the one hand, fortunately, I got a seat(just me) without a reservation; on the other, it was the worst seat in the house; completely facing away from the live musicians. That seat shouldn't even exist to be honest, it is just impossible to enjoy your meal/drinks, and watch at the same time as you have to rotate your seat 180 degrees to see them. Plus it is right next to where all of the waitstaff pick up drinks, and a beer tap that obstructs the bartender's view of you. Its just a terrible seat, so much so, I wish they just didn't have any seats.

The bartender guy was constantly busy; it was hard to get a hold of him and when i did, it was too late; I couldn't order any food, or an additional drink. He didn't really feel sociable either, like he hated his job or something. I was told there were two performances(even though for this day, the website said this particular performance was from 6pm-10:30p) and he couldn't order me any food, even though it was only 8pm. I just left disappointed, as I was looking forward to their menu. The drink I manage to get was good; small, but heavy on the liquor.

The live performance was definitely amazing. Zero complaints there. I dunno if I'll be back though after this middling experience though. Get a reservation for a table(and in turn, a dedicated waitstaff to attend to you) and you should have a solid experience if you...

My boyfriend & I visited this place for the first time tonight to celebrate our anniversary. We really enjoyed this place’s ambience. The low lighting mixed with the venues smaller size made tonight’s show feel very intimate. We sat way in the back (by choice) & still felt like we were getting a personal show. Unfortunately, we are struggling to remember our server’s name, but that is our fault & not hers. We were very impressed by the service this evening! The only thing we felt that slightly lacked tonight was the food. We tried both the roasted salmon & the teriyaki salmon entrees. The food presentation was amazing, but the taste didnt match the entrees appearances. Maybe we caught the kitchen on an odd night. Despite, our minor disappointment from our meals, we will still be back to hopefully find an entree there that better fits our tastebuds. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by how reasonably price this place was for the dining experience they offer the community. We suggest calling ahead of time & making a reservation before dining in here & you should expect to pay a cover charge to enjoy the show. I think ours was $15 a person for tonights show. Thank you Dirty Dog for giving us the chance to spend such a special day with you & a huge thank you to our amazing server! Hopefully the next time we come we have the chance to be taken care of by her again & hopefully we can manage to remember her name, so she can get the praise...

Not much room for improvement!

  1. it's in a great neighborhood and a great place to walk around before or after the show.

  2. The complimentary valet parking is very convenient. I don't usually like to valet park my vehicle but even I used it.

  3. The club is a decent size and has a great atmosphere that gives a warm cozy feeling.

  4. My server Elizabeth was very attentive and a pleasure.

  5. The sound system used at the club along with the acoustics sounded amazing and never was too loud even sitting at the closest front table to the performers.

  6. The food at the club was very good. I ordered off menu at dinner wanting a burger off of the lunch menu with no problems.

  7. its more than just a little obvious that the management at this establishment wants to make sure everybody has memorable experience.

  8. Last but not the least the hidden gem of this place is a lady named Marina. I should elaborate but this is best experienced in person.

I thank the dirty dog Jazz Cafe for a memorable evening and a great experience we will definitely go back.

My only shortfall I can see of this establishment is the menu. I'm a firm believer in sometimes simpler is better and do it better than anyone else. I am never impressed by a pretentious menu.

UPDATE: I have been back here at least 7 times over the last 2 yrs with with my Wife and 13 yr old son. It just keeps getting better with each...
