Empire Wok Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Groton

I never thought there was such a thing as bad Chinese food. Well that misconception ended for me tonight when we picked up some takeout at the Empire Wok. I was shocked how bad the whole experience was. It started when we had to wait in a lobby behind a huge plastic barricade (this was 2023, not 2020). Then we were told they could not make change, but that quickly changed when we offered to pay by credit card instead. When we got home, we were very disappointed with our "pepper chicken." It was actually very bland and very blond chicken without any pepper or any hint of flavor. This Chinese food was right up there with something my elementary school cafeteria might have made. The one good thing was that it was cheap. But I would recommend paying a few extra bucks and getting something you might actually...

Great food! Everything was flavorful, fresh, and delicious. We ordered a shrimp dish with veggies and rice...the shrimp was cooked just right which a lot of places can get wrong real fast. Also ordered the dumplings, lo mein, pan fried noodles, and crab rangoons. Dumplings tasted very fresh and the crab rangoons were on point, not too sweet, just right. Definitely making this place our new favorite to order from!

Update: I ordered lunch. The dumplings were not great, I remember ones that looked and tasted more homemade than these. The hot and sour chicken didn't come with the sauce on it. The hot and sour soup had absolutely no spice nor flavor and the consistency was closer to soupy pudding than soup. I was disappointed and surprised, didn't realize there might be a stark difference in meal time...

We moved to the Groton side of Mystic last summer and thought China King was our only close option for quick Chinese. Boy were we wrong! They do not compare at all to Empire Wok! I love Empire Wok’s General Taos. Yes, it could be a bit spicier but I’ve never had such tender pieces of chicken! And the white rice is moist and sticky, perfect to have with the General Taos!! The pork fried dumplings were delicious and my son loved the decent sized golden fingers. Can’t wait to try more off their menu. A plus, they deliver to Mystic...
