Long read. First time here. I'll say it's the best in town, but at the same time I haven't tried any others in the area. With that being, this was very good, and I'm not entirely sure I'll try another as I know the food here was great. Food is fairly priced. Beer was cold and fairly priced (went with Pacifico, its a fav of mine). I don't have the most sophisticated pallet, but the food did not taste as those it was premade and then froze until ordered. Staff was awesome. I sat for about an hour (its my thing, I'm usually alone and enjoy just hanging out). Staff checked on me periodically and noted every time my drink or chips and salsa were low. I never felt rushed to order, or pressured to leave. Though I did note business was picking up and the polite thing to do was step out so that a waiting family could use my table. Only 3 dislikes for me, hence the 4 star. Bathroom was a little dirtier than I like, though it was pretty busy while I was there (a Tuesday evening), so I do get it, perhaps it was just the business this evening. Second, dislike, I didn't see a table set to accommodate only 2 people. Also, somewhat understandable, from what I saw during my visit, it's a lot of family's, probably don't get many loaners such as myself. Third dislike, checkout is cramped quarters. If you're in line to pay, you're either dodging people entering the building, dodging people coming or going to a table, or dodging people coming or going to the restroom. Again, they were busy, so its possible pay from the table is an option. I'm not entirely sure, I only saw several proceed to the register to pay, and I simply did what they were doing. Nonetheless, fantastic place. The dislikes are not show stoppers for me, so I will be returning. Can't beat good food, good hospitality, and of course, a...
Read moreIt is not TexMex; it is not OkieMex. It is a version of traditional authentic Mexican food.
I had dined here several years ago. At that time, I must have not been particularly impressed; I didn’t document the encounter with a review. My assessment now, decent Mexican food. As about as good as any place in Grove.
Mild tomato-based salsa. The salsa picante has some heat. I distinctly remember the chips from the first visit. And my only real complaint. They are crisp, but a little dark like they have been under the heat lamp too long or toasted too long. My wife had a spectacular chili relleno that she raved about while eating it and continued raving on the drive home. It was covered with a very tasty and flavorful tomato based red sauce. For me Chili Rojo. Described on the menu as tender cubes of pork in a spicy red chili gravy. It didn’t mention anything about potatoes. The plate that came to the table had chunks of potatoes. The pork was exactly as described and plenty of it. Excellent lean tender pork. I pushed the potatoes aside. The gravy was tasty, a little spicy, but far from the red chili sauce I had hoped for. The meal was good. Great beans. Check the pictures.
Las Palmeras has a slightly different version of traditional authentic Mexican food.
The restaurant is a typical little Mexican joint. The building shows some wear. Bright colorful Mexican village scenes cover everything. Patio dining is available for those mild winter days. The restaurant is clean throughout. The service was fast attentive and friendly. Try it and compare yourself!

Read moreThis was my first time eating in this restaurant. I really don't care for Mexican food but I at least like a good taco. First when we were seated, the waiter lead us to our table, tossed a couple menus on it and then walked away to go clean off another table. So we sat down, no utensils, no nothing. Next came the drink orders. Our waitress was new so I figured I'd cut her some slack. My husband ordered a Margarita. I wanted a black Russian but they didn't have any Absolut NOR did they have any Kahlua. Pineapple juice? Nope. So I ordered ice water instead. After studying the menu I decided to order a la carte and settled on a couple beef tacos and some fries. My husband ordered the carne asada. I wish my food was as good as his apparently was. Each bite he took he was making these orgasmic sounds. However my tacos left a lot to be desired. There wasn't any taco seasoning used and the ground beef was swimming in grease. I was starving so I ate them anyway. The fries were good so that was at least something. Then I ordered sopapillas for desert. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the soaps that Chi-Chi's made when they were around. These were NOT good soaps. Sopapillas are supposed to be light and fluffy. One side of these soaps was ok but the other was cooked too long and it just disintegrated. Also they were coated in brown sugar instead of powdered sugar. Maybe that's the way they do it here but it just wasn't good. Bottom line is they seem to have good food for some of their dishes but personally I would recommend staying away from their beef tacos. I make WAY better tacos at home that actually have...
