It was just a few hours ago that I saw Mahon's BBQ post a reminder about their free chicken Sunday. Remembering the brisket sandwich, strawberry cake, and banana pudding i had from them earlier this summer, i quickly gave in to the cravings.

I opened my GPS to see its a 57 minute drive from Altamonte Springs (23 minutes from the Oakland exit to Groveland seems kinda quick, no?)...ANYWAY I hit the road šŸš—šŸ’Øwith an ETA of 7:30, I hoped that was a respectable time as I knew they closed at 8.

Unfortunately, there was a car accident prior to the Groveland Publix - (Everyone seemed alright šŸ™šŸæ). However, a single file line with every vehicle trying to skip ahead of you definitely came with a significant delay.

I wasn't walking inside Mahons until about 7:46. My girlfriend and I were greeted with smiles and lots of hospitality. As we put in our order, we were asked how much chicken we would like. we said 2 orders and mentioned there were other mouths that would love to be fed. They proceed to offer us enough chicken for 6. Thank you #1

We tried to order certain menu items only to learn they were sold out - such as their boiled peanuts and brisket- reasonably so. They instead gave us extra potato salad - delicious! Thank you #2

A kind blonde woman packing our food then asked if we we've ever had burnt ends... no ma'am, never. She then filled up a container of burnt ends and said its on them. Thank you #3!

As she continued to pack the food, we spoke to a gentleman as he devoured a delectable looking plate of food. I told him how this was our second visit and how amazing the first visit was. as we're chopping it up, the lady had finished packing the order and tried to hand us the bags. Yes, bags. puzzled because they never took my payment, i attempted to remind them of this, when the gentleman told us we're good, the food is on them. We were in disbelief. It had been a long day, a long September matter fact, and this generosity and kindness meant a lot to us. Thank you #4.

Only a sliver of food remains and bellies are full. Thank you so much Mahons! We'll be sure to visit on a weekday to support your fine...

I don’t often give 5 stars on a restaurant but I felt like this one deserves it. We were in town just for the day as a vendor at a local event, and just wanted something quick nearby that was also gluten friendly (since I have an intolerance, even with cross-contamination). This place hit the mark. They offer a sample of burnt ends that has a sweet glaze, and it was so good that it was what my husband ordered, with collard greens and baked beans, which were also tasty, and an Arnold Palmer, that he enjoyed. I got ribs (seasoned not sauced, which I prefer), cole slaw (not drowned in mayo and sugar, which I also prefer), and deviled eggs, which I’ve never seen offered before but I loved, and a gigantic cup of tea. They were all generous portions and very affordable. I also really liked the mustard sweet BBQ sauce that was on the table. The atmosphere was small and cozy, like you were at a southern grandma’s house. The service was super friendly, and it was obvious that they had quite a lot of regulars. I didn’t have any gluten reaction afterwards and overall was very happy! I wish we were closer because we would definitely become one of...

This is by far some of the best BBQ we’ve had! We decided to have them cater for a graduation party and everyone couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it all was! We ordered: 1 case of chicken, 1lb of brisket, 2 butts of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, Macaroni and cheese, bbq sauce, and a carrot cake! Everything was ready on time for pickup (wrapped nicely and freshly prepared), the owner triple checked the order with us to make sure nothing was forgotten, and everything was more than reasonably priced! The staff truly feels like an extension of your family from the moment you walk in the door. This is one of the main reasons we love to support local, family owned businesses! From the minute we were planning with Danny (the owner) he was upfront and honest with us about how much we truly needed and how to get the biggest bang for our buck. Honesty, integrity, and good food… I don’t think there’s anything better! We will definitely be using Mahon’s again in the future...

I love working at Mahon's BBQ. Everyone that comes is is always nice and friendly. I love talking to them. We get people that drive from Lakeland, Orland and other places to get this BBQ We are all just one big family. If not by blood then by friendship. We are always joking about getting rid of Danny. Lol. But without him there would be no BBQ. If you haven't tried this place then you really need to. Everything is Homemade. And Miss Evie's deserts are the best around..
