Doughboys Pizzeria — Restaurant in Grover Beach

(EDIT 3/30/18: Tried the place again after it was under new ownership. The pizza was so much better, cooked with care and had no burnt cheese on top. Savory, with enough cheese and sauce. The crust is my favorite part and the same recipe as before, which I like. Definitely worth trying. 4 stars.)

I ordered a medium pepperoni just before closing. $16. Fairly steep for a medium when many other places in Grover give you two for that price. I was promised their pizza is such good quality that it makes up for it. Unfortunately, they throw cheese on top, over the pepperoni unevenly so it burns quickly and becomes a hard layer. Mine was black on that layer instead of the golden brown I saw in other photos. I couldn't taste the quality ingredients as well as I could. The crust was very good though, but I'm still on a quest to find a good pie with stretchy, stringy cheese in the Five Cities area. May try again someday, but doubtful. Doughboy's is a long time favorite here on the Central Coast! They were pioneers of gluten free pizza, setting the bar high for others to "try" and imitate. They also have vegan cheese for all the vegans as well as for those who have lactose sensitivity like my youngest Daughter (a life saver let me tell ya!!! Haha)

Their pizza crust has just the right amount of fluff while holding onto a perfect hardiness. Sauce, cheese and toppings finish off the pie just how it needs to be, delicious!

They also have an assortment of appetizers, pastas and other eats that are also top notch....OMG, the lasagna is AMAZING!! Definitely one of our favorites!

The crew are always friendly and on it and the atmosphere is chill, they are set up for takeout...

What can I say pizza is good , but service is no good. Ordered a pizza at about 6:20pm and was told it would be about 30min. Pulled up at about 6:50pm paid and was told it would be about another 10 min. Waited until 7.15pm and still was not ready. Asked the owner for a refund at that point and he didn't acknowledge me. Pizza came out and SAYS HERE YOU GO?

I told him I didn't want the pizza and asked for a refund. He couldn't believe it and started arguing with me. I would of maybe taken the pizza if he would of apologized ones or cared more for the customer. BTW this was not the first time they were late on an order.
