I found the experience average. Maybe more on the 3.5 side, but not quite a 4 for me.
I did like the interior. Artists have paintings for sale along the wall.
The food came out pretty quick, but my omelette was a bit on the greasy side and very thin. Upon touching it with my fork, the contents just fell out everywhere--making it near impossible to collect on my fork. Covered in far too much pungent cheese. Nothing hot or melted. So the flavor was perhaps not the best, and less than room temp, so not that appetizing.
That said, I'm never convinced trying only one menu item, so not truly concerned with that as much as I was the waiter--more on that in a sec.
The sour dough toast was amazing. The cook got that right for sure. I would have asked for more, if it were not for what I am about to say next.
The staff were friendly, but the guy who was my waiter set my table, brought my food and brought my ticket. It all happened fast and I never saw him again. My glass of water sat there empty the entire duration of the meal.
I also needed a to go box for my son's food. No one came for awhile.
At one point I stood up and looked around and tried to get the attention of the other waitresses, but they never made eye contact with me--I suppose thinking they'd have to assist someone else's table if they looked my way. I even audible stated in earshot of a few of them, "I suppose my waiter went home." No one even acknowledged me.
It was embarrassing. I finally walked up to the bar area and asked for a to-go box so I could leave. The lady quickly got me one and we headed out. There were two employees, male and female, sitting down at the front in chairs who could have helped. They saw me standing there and lifted no finger to see what I needed, but was sure greet me on the way out.
This was quite an awkward experience. I may come back--especially since I only live a mile away--but who knows. I don't mind second chances, but they're in a convenient location and the menu had a lot more to offer.

Read moreMy wife and I were visiting Gulf Shores and Foley on vacation and seeing family. We rented an Air BnB and started out every day eating breakfast there with stuff we got from Publix. After that, we would head out and tackle our days eating out the rest of the day/night. On the last day, we decided to eat out for breakfast. Our Air BnB was just 2 minutes from Gulf Shores Diner so we went there. The diner was clean, well-lit, walls covered in local art (for sale), and full of friendly employees and customers! After getting our table we were taken care of and all went very well. I got the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs (pictured) and my wife got a Skillet (pictured, I forget the name) and tomato juice. We also got a side of grits. Everything was really tasty and cooked perfectly. The grits do need butter and salt but that was on the table so we got 'em doctored up and eaten, win! The Chicken Fried Steak was the perfect size, not huge like so many others. The thickness was perfect and it was tender and tasty. My wife enjoyed her food and loved the grits. Two slight negatives... the waitress was young and couldn't answer some questions I asked about some menu items. She was super nice though and did everything else great. At least she didn't come right out and say the dreaded "I don't know" then stand there and stare. She was very polite and apologized for not knowing. Second, the tomato juice my wife ordered was HUGE. She was expecting a juice glass-sized glass of juice but this was a soda-pop-sized glass topped to the tip full of tomato juice. I helped her with it and we got it done. It was actually really tasty tomato juice. Overall, I would eat there every day, I love...
Read moreToday was the first time I've eaten at GSD. I went there based off of some of the positive reviews, my experience wasn't as positive. The service was ok, not stellar by any means, we were one of 3 tables so it wasnt busy at all for 8am. The food was kind of bland, I got the Monte cristo which sounds pretty good when reading the menu but doesn't really have any flavor, it needs something to make it pop. My wife got the eggs Benedict and again, it looked great but was lacking flavor. We went with another couple, she got some sort of hashbrown dish and said it was pretty good, he got the 5 star breakfast and liked everything but the bacon, which my son had bacon as well and was not good at all, IMO. I always give a place at least twice before I decide if I'll ever go back so we'll be going back again to give it another shot but my fist visit did not impress. The place was very clean though. Gulf Shores is like our 2nd home, we come down about 10-15 times a year whether it be for a short/long weekend or a whole week and we've eaten at a lot of places down here, we try to hit the less touristy, off the beaten path places and try to stay away from the run of the mill fried seafood platter places that are...
