So where do I start? Captain Al’s came highly recommended. From one of the ladies at our RV resort. Where my wife and I were staying so because she raved about Captain Al’s we decided to give it a try our first time and we were greeted promptly as we walked up to Greeter counter we are promptly seated and then we were greeted by our waiter Zack Long that was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some recommendations, but because Captain Al’s came so highly recommended. So were some of their dishes so we started out with the oysters topped with the supreme seafood and Man old man hey man say man those had to be the best oysters I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Don’t consider myself a oyster connoisseur but I’ve had my fair share and those were absolutely delicious. Amazing and a experience, I’ll never forget so then at that point, my wife and I ordered I settled for the supreme seafood, Angel hair pasta my wife had the catfish with hush puppies and they both came with a side salad top with crab and most places when they say they’re gonna top your salad with crab. It’s just a few little shreds not much not something that you can really brag about but I’m about to brag. The salad was absolutely amazing the crab on top was a mountain of crab. It’s truly wasn’t what I expected the ranch dressing man amazing completed the salad. It was absolutely great now let’s move on to the Angel hair supreme seafood pasta with an extra side of supreme seafood when I tell you, this is one of the most absolutely amazing dishes that I’ve had in years I do mean years this dish was super delicious. Seasoned to perfection. There was nothing I needed to do but insert my fork into that pasta and into my mouth and experience greatness. My wife and I travel the world often last Thanksgiving we had the pleasure of being in Milan Italy for Thanksgiving. We spent two weeks traveling all over Italy from Florence to Rome to Venice and Milan as well. I must say I experienced some of the best food ever created by a man and God then I come to Gulfport Mississippi, March 2025 and I must say I am very very very impressed. Captain isn’t the only place we’ve eaten and I must say overall I will give Captain Niles a 10 out of 10 I will be back to try it again that’s for sure so if you’re in the Gulfport area and you want to experience some great food delicious Amazing incredible I highly suggest you get off I 10 on Cowan Road. in Gulfport, Mississippi and stop at a restaurant that I say should be World renowned everybody in the world should know about this restaurant. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. Service is amazing. The people are amazing. The owner was amazing. The servers were amazing. please don’t cheat yourself like I always say treat yourself to Captain Al’s in Gulfport...
Read moreI wish I could say that this was an amazing experience. Unfortunately it was anything but. I decided to take my mother to this restaurant for Mother’s Day but was met with rude and disorganized staff and bland food.
Let’s start with the service. We sat in the outside area, close to the restrooms. The women that sat us had on a black shirt. She was rude to me, my mother, and another couple that was sitting at another table. My mom, the couple, and I are all black. When going to sit me and my mother down, she walked really fast, did not wait for us, and closed the door on my mother when going to the outside area. She then gave our menus to another couple (white) and we had to ask for new menus. While this happened, we noticed that she did the same exact thing to another couple (black) but catered to the white couples sitting around us. That is just 2 examples of how we was treated. The service was also very unorganized. My mom was given the wrong drink and we had 3 waitresses that seem to lack communication with each other. The men at this establishment was nice and very uplifting. And the waitress with the pink shirt and the black waitress was amazing.
Now for the food. It was bland. The presentation was very beautiful. But the taste was not there at all. I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken lacked seasoning but was edible and the waffles tasted like straight sugar with a really unpleasant texture. My mom ordered the catfish and grits with sautéed shrimp added to the top. Instead of putting the shrimp on top of her meal, they put it to the side. She described the shrimp as bland and seasoned with nothing but paprika. The catfish and grits was also described to as very bland, lack of seasoning and flavor. At the end, I left the waffles right on the plate and my mom decided to bring her food home to “doctor it up” when she got home with seasoning so that it could taste good.
The bag of chips I ate when I got home was far more delicious than the food I ate at this restaurant. And it came with no rudeness nor disorganization.
Not to mention the menu was very misleading. The “bottomless mimosa” is not bottomless. It’s $15 to start with then $3 dollars for every mimosa after the first one. And this is...
Read moreHeaded home to TX the day after Cmas, Husband and I stopped by Captain Al's at the recommendation of a girl at the Harley Shop when I asked for the best lunch spot in the area. She said, "Captain Al's, hands down, you will not be disappointed". She was right!
FOOD APPETIZER Onion strings - The order was enough for probably 6, there were only 2 of us 😃. They were thin & crispy and the crust stayed on the onion. DRINKS Mermaid Margarita - Delicious and fun with coconut on the rim. Patron Margarita - Smooth with the obvious taste of house made mix. YuM! ENTREES Soft shell crab - Husband is an afficianado and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Light batter that stayed on the crab. He also liked the crab salad that came with his meal. Honey Fire Shrimp from the app menu - Fresh shrimp, crispy batter, delicious sauce. Servings were ample. We had leftovers, but sadly couldn't take them with us since we were traveling. DESSERT Key Lime Pie - We didn't have room for it, but it went down so easy! (I've worked for a dessert manufacturing company for 25yrs. I can attest that the pie was fresh, authentic, and house made with minimal ingredients).
SERVICE Our server, Ariel, was thorough, attentive, and very friendly. I appreciated that she upsold the dessert, so many don't mention it. My livelihood depends on restaurant dessert sales so it was especially appreciated. Way to go Ariel!!
ATMOSPHERE The lunch crowd cleared, and we weren't in a hurry to get on the road, so I slow sipped my Patron margarita. We kept our seats warm while we enjoyed the variety of music pumping through the speakers at a reasonable volume.
OVERALL There was a drawing being held for completing a survey card. My husband told me that if our name was drawn we would drive all the way back to Gulfport from the Houston area to redeem it. We enjoyed our visit that much! We'd like to visit during the warmer months, it seems like it would be a great place to spend a fun day. Go there, it's highly likely that...
