I have been here twice, I’ve had the same server twice, Hispanic female server with the long black hair, she was working yesterday on the 18th and that day she was really rude to me and passive aggressive, I was asking if she had arroz con dules, she looked a little confused and then said yes and went to say that yeah you got a number 6 with it and I was telling her that no I have never got a number 6, I’ve been here only twice in my life she had me confused with someone else because I have gotten the number 4 last time and this time, she then rudely interrupted me and very rude said you know that arroz con dules is rice and beans and if she didn’t interrupt me and get nasty i would have said no I’m talking about yellow rice and peas, and then when I was finally able to talk I said do you have yellow rice is what I’m asking and she said no, I am puertorican and arroz con dules is yellow rice and peas not beans, beans is frijoles or habichuelas, if you go to the store they are two different things and are in two different can's, not a big deal but the big deal is her nastiness with me for no reason and it also seemed racially motivated, she clearly looked annoyed that I did not speak Spanish and that’s crazy to be treated like that just because I’m Hispanic and I don’t speak Spanish, I shouldn’t be treated like that just because I don’t speak Spanish, to be discriminated against because of that is crazy, I say that because my brothers boyfriend started talking Spanish to her and her whole attitude changed, she was very smily didn’t give him attitude, she was very nice to him and pleasant and more upbeat personality, and he noticed also how rude she was to me and not to him, so I don’t appreciate the racism from my own fellow Hispanic. If I come back I will never have her serve me again, so my time there will not be ruined by her racism. Food and scenery is really good, that’s why I get the number 4 both times I was there, it’s...
Read moreWe went in to check the place out, as it was one of those places we often passed and said we wanted to try, but never thought if it when we could. Even though it was only 530, the lower dining area was already mostly full, and we were lucky to be seated right away. While contemplating what we might like for dinner, we were struck by how right, many of the reviewers were, about how slow the service was. It took quite a while to get our drink order in, but after telling her the drinks we wanted, we started to order, when our very courteous waitress proceeded to say we are out of this, this, this and oh - this too. Almost every chicken dish. And of course, among the dishes we were wanting. That being the case, we decided to just split something quickly and come back some other time. We order the half Cuban sandwich and a cup of black beans and rice, with a side of the "hothothot" sauce they said they sold in bottles, to go. After asking if we could get some on the side, for the black beans and rice, she informed us it was made with habanero and asked were we sure we still wanted it (of course we did!). When our food arrived - after taking WAY longer than it should have, it was just okay. Not bad, but certainly not the best Cubans in town. The beans were good, and improved with the delicious habanero sauce. All in all, if I were forced to say what I liked best, I'd have to say the sauce. But we will be back. Sometime when we aren't starving or in a hurry, and we've called ahead to ensure they have a complete...
Read moreWe had our first visit to the Havana Cafe for lunch on Friday. We meet friends for lunch often and decided to try a place none of us had been. We were greeted by a friendly and kind young lady who seated us and welcomed us as first time guests. The decor was bright and orderly and clean. We started to look over the menu when our server, Alicia arrived. She had been informed that it was our first visit and she welcomed us happily as well. We ordered the golden sangria to enjoy while we waited for our friends to arrive. We ordered the half carafe which was enough to share with all. This was the most refreshing sangria I had ever tried and it just fit the energy of the restaurant. We ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I chose the black bean soup as a side and my wife had the Spanish salad. We also had read in advance the option of topping the tradition sandwich with their #4 pork which we did. That was truly the extra flavor that took a great sandwich and made it epic. Our friends and my wife all got the half sandwich and a side. I on the other hand, went with a full size sandwich which was filling on the right way. The bread had the perfect crunch, the pickles had that tart contrast to the sweet ham and pork and the yellow mustard was the accent that made it right. The Swiss cheese was the means to hold it together and on my last bite, inspire of being full, I wanted more. Atmosphere, Food, Positive Energy, what's not to love about the Habana Café. We WILL...
