I had an appointment for a passport that was set up a few days prior from a friendly gentleman on the phone where he very specifically instructed me on the things I’ll need to bring. I double and even triple checked with him knowing these processes can be sensitive. After arriving to get my passport I waited in a slow line that was held up by irrelevant small talk between the front desk lady and a customer who I’m assuming were friends. Eventually another employee walked up in a very condescending and aggressive attitude and began berating me for being late. I was well within their grace period as I was only 5 minutes late (their grace period for passport appointments were admittedly 10 minutes) and I apologized and explained I was being held up by small talk at the front desk line I was waiting on. She rolled her eyes and agreed to help me. Moments later she asked if I had everything I needed for the process which I did according to the gentleman I spoke with on the phone days ago. She started snapping at me and berating me for apparently not having what I needed. A much friendlier library employee walked up and kindly offered her help where she took me into a room. She was an older woman with glasses and was very kind and understanding. The rude heavier set employee walked into the room I was being helped and for the third time began speaking at me with an attitude and questioning my honesty and integrity when I explained I simply did what the man on the phone told me to do in preparation for the appointment. I went to fill out an application at a table where for the 4th time she followed me to berate me some more. My girlfriend and I felt very uncomfortable with her hostility and unprofessional nature and decided to leave. It was a very unpleasant and unfair experience and Gulfport library should hold their employees to a...
Read moreI've heard patrons call Gulfport Library their "Sanctuary". I love this because this is a very Zen place to be, very welcoming and non-judgmental. They cater to everyone. It is also wonderful to see moms of young children showing respect to other patrons who are working on computers, studying, or reading. The garden area is very beautiful, lots of shade and places to sit outside. The library offers various programs for the young as well as crafting programs, informational programs, movies, trivia, and more. There's a great selection of books, audio books, and DVDs, with many new items coming in all the time. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. I look forward to seeing YOU at the...
Read moreThis is not a library. It is the home office and playground to some very inconsiderate folks. I came in today to do some work and the noise level was louder than a playground. Children were running all over, screaming and throwing furniture! When I asked the librarian why they weren't addressing the issue I was told it's the children's area and "we let kids be kids".Wow! So kids throwing around furniture that doesn't belong to them is acceptable. Explains a lot about the level of entitlement in Pinellas County and the low level of education here. I'm new to the area and absolutely blown away. Apparently, in Florida quiet libraries are a thing...
