At 6:00 PM, we went here looking for Aqua restaurant based on reviews. Front desk of hotel said it was closed, now named Jax bar & Grill. Sign in lobby advertised the specials for Tuesday, were beef tips and rice or taco salad. Sign at entry to restaurant showed their new "Hot Bar" special for each day. We go in and there is no sign of a "Hot Bar". We get seated at a table with a lake view. We're looking at menu and ask server "What about the hot bar? Where's the Beef Tips & Rice?". She said "They're just bringing it out". (At 6:15 PM?) Okay, since salad bar as side was an option with meal, we figured to go get that first. After we finished our salads, we went to get our main dish at "Hot Bar". Kitchen was still bring out trays of food to the hot tables. Rice was mixed with some sauce, beef tips were not any kind of beef tips I've ever seen, meat was all ground up in the gravy. Beef tips are usually chunks of beef in gravy. I guess the taco salad was do it yourself. Never saw any shells, just small trays with ground beef, beans and corn. I guess you were to go get the salad and then add your own toppings. We went to our table and sat down to eat. Everything was room temperature! What? Hot table apparently had not been pre-warmed and trays of food were allowed to cool before being brought out to the "Hot Bar". We told the server, "Everything is room temperature or just barely warm, almost inedible". We decided to leave. Server was apologetic and brought our check. We were only charged for the small salad plates and my iced tea. We paid and left, wishing we had gone somewhere else. We asked a man at the next table how his food was since he ordered from the menu. He said it was great. Very disappointed...
Read moreI was super happy to see Jax moved into the Wyndham Hotel Restaurant. They took over the never-open Aqua restaurant that used to be there. I think this could be an awesome location for them, but their prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I docked the boat today and went in for a late lunch. There were 3 of us. We had an appetizer of hush puppies (9) costing $8, a Sprite, and 2 teas costing $8.97, 3 orders of 6-piece chicken wings (no sides included) costing $33, a side order of slaw costing $3, a side of french fries costing $4, and a small slice of cheesecake costing $6. The server was great and friendly, so she got a $20 tip. The hush puppies were small but good. The wings were anorexic but had good sauce and were cooked well. So for a quick and easy-to-make small lunch (drum roll)........... Subtotal including tax = $69.27, plus a convenience fee for using a card = $2.52, plus a $20 tip, comes to a total of $91.79....
Read moreWonderful restaurant that has just opened in Guntersville, AL. Great food! Great drinks! Great staff! The Philly was phenomenal!!! Hush Puppies were to die for!!! Portions are typical size, and well worth the price. I’ll definitely be back! Everyone should stop by for lunch or dinner. The restaurant is ground level inside The Wyndham hotel on Lake Guntersville. As far as the downstairs bar, definitely a no go. Won’t be back to the downstairs bar. They wouldn’t make the drinks we requested. Said we had to get those upstairs. We tried to order those drinks upstairs and we were told we had to get them downstairs. The margaritas are not good. Made from a mix and tastes cheap. Then, once we asked how to get to the deck, they told us how, and once we were seated, we were asked to leave. Said we weren’t allowed to sit there. So, as far as the upstairs bar and food, it was fantastic! Downstairs bar- don’t...
