🍰JJ Bakery小雅屋 - Hacienda Heights — Restaurant in Hacienda Heights

While this is not my favorite bakery in CA, it is one of my top favorites, and probably the one I go to the most due to its proximity to one of my favorite noodle houses, Malan Noodle, and because the parking at my actual favorite SoCal bakery is atrocious.

They are small so they are often out of things, especially later in the day. I like their daan tat especially when I'm lucky enough to arrive while they still have warm ones fresh out of the oven. I try not to eat too many sweets so I usually get things like loaves of sliced bread, hot dog buns, etc.

My Chinese isn't great so sometimes I feel they might be frustrated or impatient with me when I don't understand them or switch to English. I might dock them half a star for not being super welcoming but really it's my (or my parents') fault I didn't become fluent.

For people who say they're rude: they're from a culture where efficiency is prized over fake niceties. Like the culture I'm from (New York). It doesn't mean we're trying to be rude. We just...

Do not buy any celebration kind of cake with strawberries INSIDE the cake, not the decoration type of strawberries placed ON TOP of a cake.

They do not remove those tiny leaves on top of each strawberry and just cut the berries vertically halves and sandwiched them between two layers of cake with cream.

Who knows if dirt and pesticides lurk under those leaves, I think no one would clean them thoroughly underneath.

Why don't they just cut the leaves off? Laziness? Hey, that's one more cut per strawberry, why bother? Right? Don't complain, you were given more than your money's worth.

We have removed ALL strawberries buried in cream from the inside...

I just can't say enough about the importance of customer service. I arrived at J&J Bakery this morning at 730 only to be greeted by the RUDE, NASTY owner who couldn't understand why I was asking about pastries that were not on the shelves! I was shopping to get fresh pastries to give to my family for brunch. NORMALLY, when bakeries are open, their shelves are stocked up with fresh pastries for the morning, for paying customers to choose from when they arrive. I do thank the RUDE owner because my negative experience here sent me on the path to 85 Degrees...where ALL of the shelves were freshly stocked and I was greeted by friendly staff!!!J &J...
