When you walk in, there’s an altar. This was a nice touch as most businesses in Vietnam would have this altar. It was so nostalgic to see items on the menu that I have not seen in your average Vietnamese restaurant in the U.S. I also like the tables and chairs they chose, the style is quite popular in mid-range restaurants in Vietnam. The bowls and matching spoons are also special, but I am a little worried about lead in ceramic so I think white would have been fine. However, if you are looking for the experience of using the types of fancy ceramic that you could buy in Hanoi, here’s your chance. The paintings and decor tie everything together, and I felt as if I was transported to a restaurant in a fancier part of Hanoi. I had the house special pho. I love that they did not skim on the meat. It was a lot of meat, and that made me happy 😁 I also love that the noodles are wide, which is more authentic to Hanoi, in my opinion. I like the broth to taste a little more “bony,” but I know the authentic Hanoi broth is quite clear and light. The place is BYOB, parking is ample in the front, and hot tea tasted excellent. I will be back, try dishes other than pho and update my review. I’m hoping this place...
Read moreAs temperatures start to drop, Pho is one of the soups that help keep me warm. The interior was spacious and very clean. Even the patterns of the tableware were pretty and not your typical commercialized white porcelain. The service was friendly, helpful, accommodating, and patient while I studied their menu. I started with a grilled chicken spring roll that came with a peanut dipping sauce. The rolls were fresh, the veggies inside were nice and crispy, and the grilled chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed this as an appetizer to the pho. For the Pho, I got it with the eye round steak, flank, and fatty brisket. The broth had a great color, so I knew it was going to be deep and bold. It was a really good bowl of Pho, and the ratios of the meat and noodles were just right. This was a really good bowl of Pho! Next time I go, I really want to try more of their Hanoi affair specialties and see how their banh mi's compare against some of the other local spots. I'm looking forward to visiting again and having a good Viet spot so close...
Read moreMy family has grown so fond of Hanoi cuisine in the past month that we now plan most of our weekend errands across the bridge from Philly to NJ just so we have a reason to dine here.
There’s a gazillion Viet restaurants in Philly but what I find unique about this place is that the chef specializes in northern viet dishes ( most Viet restaurants have southern dishes). The southern dishes that most people are usually familiar with are also on the menu and also executed well.
Dishes that we have tried and loved so far: bún chả Hà Nội (the pork vermicelli dish that Obama made American famous) bánh cuốn thịt Hà Nội (steamed rolled rice pancake w/grilled pork) xôi xeo gà (shredded chicken on sticky rice) bánh tôm hồ tây (west lake fried shrimp cake) pho (beef noodle soup) com sườn đặc biệt (special grilled pork hop rice platter)
For my mother who is not an easy woman to please, she now wants to have her birthday here. 😆 If you couldn’t tell from this review, we love this place and will continue...
