The Westmont Diner is located in Westmont, NJ in a small strip mall of sorts near the corner of Haddon Ave. and Maple Ave. It's also not too far from the Westmont PATCO station. Our visit here was on October 6, 2019.
We came in the evening for dinner. I had a coupon that I had online, so we figured it was worth trying out. When you look at the place outside, the spot looks unassuming, but looks can be deceiving. The parking lot does need a bit of work, as there were some spots with potholes. Once we entered, it did have that general diner feel to it. We were immediately greeted and seated as well. It was busy, but not overly busy.
Once at our table, our server was over there fairly quickly. She greeted herself and then asked us if we wanted anything to drink. After placing our drink order and coming back with it, she asked if we were ready to order, but we weren't quite yet, since like a typical diner, the menu is large. She gave us more time to look over the menu. After getting another table seated, she came back to check if we were ready to order, and at that point we were. I ended up getting the Broiled Shrimp with mashed potatoes and applesauce as the sides. My mom went with the Broiled Chop Steak with mashed potatoes and coleslaw as her sides.
Within a few minutes of ordering, the salad that came with each of our orders were brought to the table, along with some bread and butter. The salads looked really good and were also fresh. The salad was a great start to the meal. About ten minutes or so after getting the salad, our orders came out to the table. The food came out hot and exactly as ordered. The shrimp were really good, along with the mashed potatoes and applesauce. There was plenty of food. My mom also liked what she had gotten as well. After eating, I totally forgot that it included a small dessert as well. I ended up going with the mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Overall, this was a great experience. The service and food were great. It definitely looks like a hole in the wall kind of place, but as I noted before, looks can be deceiving. Prices are very reasonable considering the portion sizes of the food. I would definitely come back here in the future if I am in the area. If you happen to be in the area, you should come visit this place as well, but just note that they are...
Read moreHostess-tried (didnt give choice or option) to seat us closely to others, although plentyyyy of open booths not so close to people.😒🤔😑 So me and my mom said no, and chose a further booth towards the back (which was open and available). Although people love to be in denial and not face facts- there is still a serious pandemic people, small precautions aren't that hard if it can save a life (think of your mom, dad, siblings, grandmom, grandparents, anyone you love), if social distancing is attainable- do not sit people so close to others!!! Food- my mom and I had a breakfast combo. Eggs were good, Belgian waffle was okay, one whole strip of my bacon was no good, rubbery/fatty so didn't eat that. Brighter note- my mom said the coffee was good. Waitress-was okay, she was little slow taking our order, but what I didn't appreciate is she was talking as she had our food in her hands and talked as putting it down onto table. If you MUST talk over someones food (which you should not)-wear a mask for the love of God 🙏 I had one on (waitress didnt), not that hard. I've had covid twice, 1st time I greatly struggled for my life, lungs collapsed, major palpitations and lightheadness, frequently felt close to syncope (passing out), severe brain fog, oxygen down low 80s, hospital, etc. Second time (this summer) needed antiviral. Although I'm somewhat young, I was born with a serious heart disease, which was not discovered until after I had covid the first time!! Please think of others and learn to never talk while putting down food. Also- been in medical field for over 15 yrs- waitresses/servers (no disrespect- I have waitressed yrs ago) so please learn- when you talk where do you think your saliva droplets are going??!?! While you're at it- look up how far a cough and a sneeze can travel and can linger in the...
Read moreI’ve been going to the Westmont Diner for as long as they’ve been around— with family, friends, takeout, whatever. The Prentzas family is as kind and welcoming as they come. They’ve always been so warm to my mother and I— literally whenever I see them they tell me to give her their regards. Whenever we would drop by to eat (pre-pandemic, we haven’t dined in for the last year) they are always so friendly and make it a point to say hi.
Not only is the food great, but they are such caring people and really care for the community. When the Pandemic began and restaurants were suffering, the Prentzas offered their entire menu at a huge discount for months. I know this helped out so many families who were struggling financially.
Another example of this was tonight— I just ordered some fried pickles and there was some mix up. I’m not really sure what happened, but Christos told me he would have another order out in a few minutes for me. No problem, things happen. I wasn’t mad or anything. Only a few minutes later and he came out with at least a double order! I didn’t ask for this, and he didn’t have to do that. But honestly, that’s just his character and his family’s hospitality. I’m grateful to have such a great diner in town run by such nice people.
I was just talking with some friends about how much I miss eating at diners, and once it’s safe to dine out again you know where I’m headed. If you haven’t been there, I think it’s time to...
