It's difficult to write this review as this location has such promise but truly seems to be struggling to figure out how to resolve it's challenges. We've dined here multiple times and each time something else happens that makes you think they're trending in the wrong direction. Collectively the issues seem connected to who's making decisions. Tonight it started with 3 of us being seated and hostess not noticing that there were not enough place settings (not resolved during the entire meal). After 10 minutes we were finally greeted and drink order taken. It was explained that they have a new system that was challenging for all staff (the first of many times that the new system was mentioned as the reason for challenges). Waters were then promised but never arrived through the meal. First round of drinks arrived as we reviewed the menu. After food order was placed, we requested a second round of drinks. We finished our first round before the appetizers came out. We finished our appetizers before waitress checked on us. Then the waitress brought out the second round of drinks. Again, the new system was blamed for slow drink service. It became clear that the waitress had a section that was split between the two farthest ends of the restaurant. Poor planning and decision making. Entrees came out but again we were done our drinks and ate without beverages. We were trying to have a no stress evening and would have normally just paid and left. However, once the check came out, I noticed that I was charged $2 for the tonic in my gin and tonic as well as a separate fee of $10.50 for the gin... as if each ingredient was itemized. I looked for the server to ask for clarity, but after 10 minutes I approached the bartender. The bartender first responded that it was not her check and that she couldn't help but then responded that it's the new system that charges a separate fee for each mixer. I must have looked confused because she immediately responded that she understood my confusion and that she encouraged me to share with management. A few minutes later the manager came out and explained that the new system charges the separate fee but that they would remove it from the check. I explained that these little inconveniences (all mentioned above) seem to increase every time we eat there. With that the server returned with the updated check removing ther fee for the "mixer" (i.e., the tonic in my gin and tonic). I explained that I don't like to complain and was once again told that the new system is causing these challenges and that I could post a review on Google... hence this review. Then it got even more weird. As I handed my credit card to the server to pay, my card was swiped table side and I was handed a tablet to enter my tip while the server stood next to me. This reminded me of a Friendly's type experience. When I commented to the server, I was told once again that paying on the tablet was part of the new system. This place has all the potential but whoever is making these decisions and overseeing the operation is slowly killing it's potential for sustainability. There's too much competition in the area so keg and kitchen needs to address these issues or risk becoming even more mediocre and then closing in a...
Read moreTo be honest I'm surprised to see so many good reviews of this restaurant. When we visited recently, I struggled to find something nice to say about it. To me, it failed in almost every way a restaurant can: menu, food, and service. I suppose the atmosphere was nice enough but that was basically the only redeeming quality of this place.
The menu is poorly conceived and confused, yet still fails to deliver on its meager promises. I ordered a "Roasted Brussel Salad" - the entire salad contained maybe 2-3 brussels sprouts, none of which looked like they had been within 6 feet of an oven. The rest of the plate was nothing more than a romaine salad, the likes of which you might get at a Wendy's. My daughter ordered pasta from the kids menu, which arrived with a large scrap of paper buried in the food. My grandmother wanted a vegetable substitution for the bok choy, but we were told all that was available instead was French fries. Our server seemed stumped to think of any other vegetables on the menu.
The bar menu was lacking. For a restaurant called "Keg" and kitchen, I would have expected more than the maybe 8 beers they had on draft. The variety of beer was poor as well. Guinness was the only available stout, there were no other dark ales of any kind, the IPA selection was also severely lacking. I'm pretty sure there were more ciders overall than beer or wine. The cocktail list looked nice enough, but I was put off by the prices.
Service was slow, and server's knowledge of the menu was poor. Two of the selections I was interested in were unavailable. Our table wasn't available for nearly 25 minutes after we arrived (on time, with a reservation) - something I normally wouldn't fault a restaurant for, especially on a holiday weekend - except that when we arrived and for hours afterward the restaurant was practically a ghost town. There were dozens of available tables, all completely empty except the one table I suppose our hostess wanted to seat us at. Though the restaurant was empty, it was teeming with servers, which was paradoxical considering how slow food service was. It took perhaps 40 minutes to get our orders sent to the kitchen, another hour for them to come out. I tend to be a patient person, so the slow service wouldn't have been enough to really warrant a bad review. But after my sad attempt at a salad and the garbage in my daughter's food, I'd made up my mind.
The Haddon Township/Collingswood area has dozens of phenomenal restaurants. Given the options of fine places to enjoy, I can't foresee ever going back to Keg and Kitchen. If you haven't been, don't...
Read moreSoooooo good. We had the wedge salad, mahi tacos, roast beef sandwich and Brussel sprouts. Second time going. Had brunch the first visit. Was decent but the dinner menu blew me away. Looking forward to coming back and trying new additions to the menu. Thanks guys.
Well I came back. My first review was from years prior. This place took a dive. Wife and I ordered dinner. My meal was delivered by someone other than our waitress. Tacos and a side. My wife’s meal was not delivered. Our waitress didn’t make the standard 5 min check back. I told my wife her meal most likely was never made and said we should share. She really didn’t want what I had and I can’t blame her because you know…she ordered what she wanted. Not unusual behavior at a restaurant. Anyway our waitress made an appearance about 15 or 20 minutes into our “meal”. We then explained the situation and she was apologetic and said that she’ll put in the order and it would be “fast”. My wife asked if she could comp us some drinks while we waited again. The waitress obliged but in all honesty we shouldn’t have had to ask. Again someone other than our waitress delivered my wife’s meal at a speed I wouldn’t consider fast. Glad we had those drinks while we waited…Anyway turned out it was the wrong meal. We had to grab the first available person we saw working to explain the situation. They offered to make the meal again and we declined. At that point we just wanted to end this pitiful experience. Our waitress came by and we paid our bill and she had the audacity to ask for gratuity. All I can say is this kind of service has been more common these days. People just don’t care and take zero pride in their work and think just because they showed up they are entitled to extra tips. The nice person my wife is she left her a tip. Here’s my tip-write things down, five minute check back. If you mess up own it and make it right on your own. Shouldn’t have to complain to get good service. With prices going up and service going down I can’t stress enough the importance of decent service. Without that, eating at home is the best option. Less hassle and cheaper. Good luck keg and kitchen or as of now lovingly referred to in our household as...
