I've been to the pour house at least 30 times. I used to love drinking here, with their extensive beer list being a treat. I've always been pretty happy with the food as well. In the past I've given the Pour House a 4-5 star rating, but I have to drop it to 3 at this point.
I've been sober for 9 months now, and by chance ended up with some gift cards to use here. So I figured I'd grab an app or two, and an NA beer. To my surprise the Pour House only carries Heineken 0.0 as an NA beer, and the waitress didn't even know if they had them to begin with. That has me doubting their freshness, and I'm just not big on that one anyway.
The Pour House is one of the best craft beer bars in the southern half of the state, so I figured they'd maybe have something from Lagunitas, or Sam Adams, or Dogfish Head. Nope. I mention those because they're breweries The Pour House already carries in some capacity.
The NA beer market is rapidly growing, and furthermore, it is more than macro stuff. There are breweries dedicated to craft NA beer like Athletic. It's a shame that The Pour House apparently cares so little about being accommodating for sober visitors that they only carry Heineken 0.0.
I'm not asking for tap space, but keeping a singular Sam Adams Hazy IPA, or Athletic Golden Ale, or Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher, just something for us sober people would be reasonable.
Instead, a place that used to be a favorite will now be forever ignored. The food has always been secondary to the beer list here. The brussels I got were burnt. I get they char them typically, but there wasn't a bit of brussels that wasn't burnt/charred. No green vegetation at all. The Nashville mac and cheese was okay, but did not taste $16 worth.
Thanks for the memories Pour House, had many good...
Read moreTLDR, this is not the same restaurant, food/beer quality, nor experience and has gone downhill since an investment firm took over recently which is so sad. I had not been back since before 2020 as we had moved away but prior to that we used to go frequently, get takeaway etc from 2010-2019. It used to be HOPPING, packed with families, great/diverse draft list, a fantastic pour-a-palooza event and solid burgers and pub style food.
Well I didn't realize that the Pour House (and all of the whelihans restaurants) were sold to an investment firm and I can say things have changed and not for the better. Food was way under seasoned, dry hammered burgers with barely melted (again dry!! HOW??) cheese, the fries were just begging for a sprinkle of some sort of salt and usually I find fries very salty so if I'm asking it means none were added. They used to serve with a beautiful tall brioche bun, I got a deflated smashed tasteless thing. We both couldn't finish our meals.
Beer list is predominantly hyper local (love Tonewood but I'll just a walk a mile straight to the source) and then mostly inbev big beer groups and just not interesting nor seasonal (it's June, why are we still serving imperial stouts and only a few sours, 1 saison, 2 wheat beers). The restaurant itself was pretty much empty during peak dinner service which just made me feel bad for the servers who were nothing but delightful but I did hear most of the staff walked out and went to another establishment because of the changes that came with new owners. It's a beautiful night and the entire outdoor area is EMPTY when all other places are packed. That should have been my red flag 🚩 Sadly won't...
Read moreThe Bar Crawl Night 😡never again will I go on a bar crawl night, I will call ahead. My husband and I go every Thursday and never had a problem with food or anything. Went this Saturday and we didn't know it was a bar crawl, people were in the parking lot drinking and falling all over the place drunk. My husband had his both knees done so he has to use walker and drunk people almost knocked him over on the ramp going up because they were clearly drunk and didn't care that my husband using a walker was coming up the ramp and it was obnoxiously loud from all the drunks screaming across the room during this bar crawl. The food was noting to compare like on Thursday's, it wasn't very good I was disappointed and our server didn't even give us utensils I had to call over another server to get some for me these poor servers were losing there minds. So I usually get the cookie skillet but had no desire to stay another minute because a group of drunks were seated right next to us, came in yelling and cursing. One of them even tripped over my husbands walker because they were so drunk and weren't paying attention. As if that wasn't enough by the front door was a bunch of the bar crawl drunks all standing by the door making it impossible for my husband with his walker to get by, no one wanted to move I have to become rude like them to make them move and the ramp was also a crowd and people were squeezing by my husband who clearly had a walker. It was horrible😡 The bar crawl...
