Hop dogma was a perfect ending to an impromptu trip to the coast. The location is exquisite sitting on "Main Street" overlooking the ocean. The large open windows made me think of a small town America ice cream shop. The atmosphere inside is clean & modern with beer charts & informative posters regarding beer production & processes. They also have a large flat panel tv for the sports enthusiast in the group. Part of the appeal of this nano brewery is that it is engrained in small town life. From the beers that have taken on locals names to the calk board that lets you buy your buddy a beer this place embodies everything that is pure about small town America.
Every beer was top notch within its style. We had a flight which contained two IPAs, a stout and a red. My wife also had the vanilla bean stout. The vanilla bean stout is a limited run but if it's available you MUST get it! Perfect blend of the bitter & smokey flavor of coffee with subtle smooth vanilla undertones thru the middle & a creamy unimposing sweet finish. The only blemish on the establishment is the barkeep working when we were there wasn't very knowledgeable about the beer itself & wasn't able to answer basic questions about the style of the beers. Overall Hop Dogma is a place worth going out of your way for and if you're in the area it's a must stop location for anyone who enjoys quality beer. You might even meet the local who inspired the name...
Read moreI live out here in the coast only a couple of miles from Pillar point Harbor. I have been to Hop Dogma about 3 or 4 times. Absolutely great place for specialty beers and socializing! Trouble is, unlike ANY other bar or brewery on the coast, including Pacifica, they have ZERO gluten-free offerings! They have been here for about five or six years but seemingly, they refuse to offer anything like hard apple cider, hard seltzer, or even such great pale ale like gluttony (from Colorado). WTF!? There are now many terrific gluten-free beers that are as good or better than regular beers. So I can’t go there with my friends or go to gatherings because they simply choose not to carry anything that I can drink. Their choice but it certainly does not fit with the Coastside...
Read moreWe frequent this place on week nights... (Ok and sometimes on weekends too before the crowds arrive :D). They always provide excellent bar service (big shout out to Carlo our favorite bartender who is always super attentive) and it's just such a great hang out place. Awesome music and the vibe is exactly what we want in a coastal town. It’s home away from home 😍
Husband loves the IPAs (Smile Medication, Silly Gimmick &Alpha Dank) and there’s usually something on the menu for me too! (Mild sour beer etc)
PS: weekends are super busy so choose the vibe / crowds that you want.
They do have some games and a great table in the middle if you don't want to sit at the bar or one of the smaller tables...
