After being disappointed by a popular chain restaurant's "Sunday chicken" dinner twice in a row, we searched for a new place to dine and meet friends in the middle of the county. After a bit of searching online, we found the Hamburg Diner might just work.
Parking is easy, right in front of the diner, located in a cute neighborhood. There could also be a lot, not sure as we didn't have to search.
Once inside, we were immediately greeted and told to find a table. As we went after the lunch rush, plenty of tables were available. Shortly after being seated, our cheerful and friendly server Kaitlyn came to bring us menus and take our drink orders. A few minutes later, Kaitlyn returned with our drinks and took our food orders. Two of us ordered the patty melt w fries, (an upcharge), and the other ordered pancakes and sausage patties. The patty melts were delicious! The rye bread was nicely crusty but not so hard as to rip the skin off the roof of your mouth. The patty was juicy and thick, topped with perfectly fried onions. The french fries were standard. A friend who dined with us really enjoyed her pancakes, said they were delicious and fluffy. After digging into our food, Kaitlyn returned to ask how everything was, bonus points! Too often we dine at Mom and Pop places, or chain restaurants and either no one returns to ask how our meal is, or they return too soon before you can tell if something is off. After finishing what we could of our meals, (The two of us who had the patty melts each brought half home), Kaitlyn told us that, since we were first time diners at the Hamburg Diner, we each would receive a free dessert! Wow! Sweet! I brought home the chocolate cake with PB icing, and my two friends opted for the lemon cake. My cake was off the hook! Delicious! I have a habit of checking out restrooms at diners, (You can tell a lot about a restaurant in there), and was happily satisfied that it was very clean, as the rest of establishment. The atmosphere was adorable, very retro with red swivel stools at the counter, and old fashioned, (But very comfortable and roomy), booths along the side wall. Between the service, (Excellent), and the food, (Very good), it was a great experience and we will...
Read moreI am always up for supporting local businesses…and since this is a convient location I tried it 3 times…2 times under the Owner..Sam, I believe and just recently under the new owner. I always order take out and it was an epic fail every single time. The first two times were just basic eggs toast taters and meat and it was overpriced, undercooked, and small portions. This last time I decided to try the egg sandwich. They charge extra for meat and cheese (which they did not add the cheese) and served it on some soggy toast. The bacon was soft and tasted like microwaved bacon strips and the taters were also way too soft (not fully cooked). I regret to say this is the last time I attempt trying to support something local as I spent $20 for 2 sandwiches and cold soft taters. I honestly had a toasted egg breakfast sandwich cooked on a grill in a bodega that was LOADED with egg, crispy bacon, and melted cheese and that ONE sandwich was 3.99 and worth EVERY bite. Third time was DEFINITELY not a charm and I hope this...

As soon as we were seated, our drink orders were taken. Ice tea tasted as though a used tea bag was used, not much flavor.
The side salad was very good. The tomatoes and peppers tasted homegrown, and the 1000 Island dressing was thick, as though it was homemade.
My husband's meatloaf was delivered without a side, and quite honestly, looked very unappetizing, just blobs of brown covered by a brown/black congealed gravy. He had to ask for his side of fries, which he said was the best part of the meal.
I had the mac and cheese casserole and even with a lot of pepper, and an unhealthy amount of salt, the casserole tasted like pasta water. The pasta was cooked well, but it seemed that it was just placed in the dish without draining, making the cheese sauce very watery.
We try to patronize small businesses, but we just can't justify the New Hamburg Diner. The prices were typical of local diners, but the food was far inferior.
For us, it's...
