Jumped off of I-78 in Hamburg and was looking for a decent place to eat. Lots of fast food joints (Micky D's, Wendy's, etc.) stuff we are not really into. Also now a days you can come out of Mickey D's with no change to your $50. Googled Backwoods Bros and decided to take a chance being as it was a little out of the way and off of the main drag. It's really a plain Jane looking place, but don't let that fool you. Food and service is a 10 out of 10. My wife, myself and grandson all went for the pull pork sandwich. A first for our grandson and he loved it. My wife and I like to think of ourselves as pulled pork connoisseurs and we were not disappointed. Great sandwich that was overflowing with pork. Three different BBQ sauces provided with the meal. One cool thing, which I should have taken a picture of, is the cups our drinks came in had inspirational sayings written on them by the owner. Cool beans. Service was impeccable and talked with the owner for a bit. Really felt comfortable eating there. A family owned restaurant...something that is disappearing from the American landscape as fast food garbage crowds them out. Go while you can and enjoy food that tastes special. PS...they make their own BBQ sauces in house. The Honey BBQ one is damn good and we bought a bottle to bring back...
Read moreWe had been to Backwoods Brothers about 2 years ago and the food was really good. I remember the brisket being so tender, juicy, and flavorful I didn’t use any sauce so I could savor the flavor of the meat. Same with the pulled pork and ribs.
We were in the area recently and decided to stop and get some take-out. BIG MISTAKE.
As we waited for our order, we kept hearing them put stuff in and out of the microwave….a beeping microwave has a distinct sound. My wife and I looked at each other and hoped it wasn’t OUR food but it had to be as we were the only people in the place. Maybe that should have been a sign?!
When we got home I couldn’t wait to dive into our BBQ. What a HUGE disappointment! The brisket was tough and dry as was the pulled pork and sausage. Must have been what they heated in the microwave. The mac and cheese was tasteless, and the baked beans were obviously from a can. YUK! The ribs were ok, but I’ve certainly had better.
I can say for certain we’ll NEVER go back. Really unhappy about spending what we did for such bad food.
The 5-star reviews must be folks who were lucky enough to get food fresh from the smoker. From the reviews, seems like it's hit or miss. Our visit...
Read moreOverall, this is definitely somewhere I'd eat at again if we were in the area.
Legit BBQ place owned and run by 2 brothers from Texas.
Dined at 3pm, so of course not a popular time for most. The place was very slow (I didn't expect any different).
I was a bit sad that the brisket wasn't ready to be served, but my pulled pork was pretty tasty and rather perfectly cooked. The Ribs were even better. They were moist and seasoned with a rub just right (not too thick, no liquid smoke, and not a ton of salt). The fries were pretty good, the onion rings a little too cooked for my taste, decent macaroni and cheese, and fantastic macaroni salad. Definitely try the macaroni salad. The housemade honey bbq sauce was pretty good too, no over powering vinegar taste or too much spice.
2 meals; 1 meat each and 2 sides, plus tip was about $40. Not the cheapest lunch, but definitely what you should expect to pay for BBQ.
The owner that served us was friendly enough but the professionalism could be a little improved. However, I won't knock him too much for this. He's just a backwoods Texas boy and lives it through...
