I always order from My Quate but I was having a small birthday party for my mom who has cancer and she asked for Mexican food and I called and asked if they could put together something for eight people and what the owner Henry did for me was way above and beyond what anyone could have expected! First, I have never been in there because I always send my husband to pickup the takeout, which, by the way, is always perfect. The place is so quaint, with bright hues of blue, sandy yellow and cacti that remind you of a bright desert landscape and vibrant dark reds that deepen the warm homey feel that you get when you walk in. Then when I brought the food to my mom’s! Three huge trays! One of chicken enchiladas smothered in sauce that was just that right verdant color that makes the inside of your mouth pucker with anticipation of brilliance of the combination of their tomatillo sauce combined with the crisp lettuce, amazingly fresh homemade pico de gallo and perfectly crumbled cotija cheese that was conveniently packaged separately so as to be served at just the right temperatures. As were the red ripe tomatoes, finely diced onions and cilantro and shredded lettuce for the tacos. The trays of assorted tacos, were presented gorgeously. We had ground beef, shredded pork, grilled chicken and al pastor. The juices in the bottom of the tray that ran off of the succulent meat was soaked up but the flour tortilla held up even though it was full of flavor. The masa or corn flour that is used to make the tortillas is ground to a consistency that makes them chewy and soft and they are rolled out to the perfect thickness. I had the Al pastor and ground beef tacos. The ground beef was seasoned with a good blend of Mexican seasonings(don’t worry Henry, I won’t tell anyone I figured out your secrets). Just the right amount. The al pastor…mmmmmm succulent, tender, sweet, grilled pieces of marinated pork, little pieces of pineapple, put some cilantro, onions and lime juice. He gave us limes too. Man that is some taco heaven. On top of that he gave us rice, black beans, refried beans and cotija cheese to sprinkle on them. The black beans are simmered all day. They are saucy and they pop when you bite them to blend with the sauce to make a smooth texture in your mouth that if eaten with a fork full of rice is an experience to be had. The refried, which are my favorite are thick and creamy with little bits of the pinto bean still there when eaten alone it’s almost like thin savory soft creamy peanut butter but with the rice it goes together like pb&j. Instead of regular milk, you need one of the incredible juices or milks they offer there. While I was waiting for them to put the finishing touches on, I had a guava milk. The strawberry milk we grew up with has nothing on this stuff. Price wise, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Customer service wise,...
Read moreWow. Just wow. My family and I went here on their 37th day open. The service was excellent. The management was superb. And the food was just amazing. Within about 60 seconds of tasting the chips and salsa, my dad, who loves Italian food more than he loves his children (only a slight exaggeration) announced that he wanted to eat here again next week. We ordered the chips and fresh guacamole, which was excellent (my preference would be for a tad more spice, but this was chock full of delicious lime flavor so nothing bland about it), and the sweet fried plantains, also excellent, for appetizers. For my entree I had the My Quate Mixed Enchiladas, which came with one beef, one pork and one chicken enchilada, as well as your choice of refried or black beans, and rice. They were superb, but I admit that I overate on the appetizers so I was unable to finish my entree. My dad had the Steak and Mole enchiladas (not what they are called on the menu, but they're under the "Enchiladas de la Casa" section) and was also unable to finish his (which is unusual, but he made the same mistake with the appetizers that I did). My sister had the beef tacos and enjoyed them as well, although as someone who does not like spice, she chose to have them only with lettuce, tomato and cheese and I personally would prefer something with more flavor, but there were other options for toppings which had that.
Overall, this was an exceptional dining experience. I can't wait to go back and will sing the praises of this place to everyone I know. It won't be long before they outgrow the space they are in and have a line out the door.
If I had any suggestions, it would be to in the future look into a liquor license and a bigger space, because they're going to outgrow the tiny space they have...
Read moreExcellent addition to the Route 33 corridor in Hamilton! My Quate is a family run Mexican restaurant that has taken over F.D. Subs former location. The interior has undergone a complete makeover, complete with bright colorful walls and custom-decorated chairs. I went in on Friday night for a take-out dinner and found every table in the place occupied, a good sign. While I was at the register waiting to complete my order, I was speaking briefly was a couple who was making their third trip to My Quate, an even better sign given the fact that it has only been open a few weeks. My wife had the shredded chicken enchiladas and I opted for the chorizo stuffed poblano pepper. The enchiladas were perfect, stuffed with a generous portion of perfectly marinated chicken and topped with a tasty salsa verde and queso fresco. As delicious as the enchiladas were, the stuffed poblano was even better. The pepper was absolutely packed to capacity with crumbled chorizo and cheese, lightly coated in egg batter and topped with some sort of red sauce that complimented the flavor amazingly. Both dishes came with ample sides of rice and beans (black or refried). We both finished our meal with the best rendition of Tres Leches that I have found in the area. My Quate is the kind of establishment any community would be lucky to have. I truly wish them well, because not only is the food delicious, but every member of the family was courteous, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The menu is huge, and I look forward to many return trips to sample all of the choices. ¡Bienvenido a Hamilton, My Quate, y...
