It is unacceptable that an employee was terminated on the spot for communicating with coworkers in the same manner that has always been acceptable at the store. I have witnessed numerous employees making inappropriate comments and behaving poorly in front of customers. Why would Wawa, a company that prides itself on being friendly and encouraging smiles, allow someone to let go of someone with nine years of loyalty and dependability? They have terminated a parent, friend, partner, and homeowner. While some employees have behaved inappropriately and spoken explicitly, there have also been instances of managers showing half-naked pictures to staff. What about the employee who yelled and cursed at a manager right in front of the other associates and a store FULL OF CUSTOMERS? Or the three managers who discussed the situation regarding the now-terminated employee, and suggested that he had this coming? Additionally, a manager once discussed the terminated employees' pay in front of customers and employees near the front counter by the cigarettes. In a normal establishment, that manager would have been reprimanded or at least spoken to! This is wrong; discussing someone's salary in front of people who are not involved is against privacy rules. You cannot speak about others' privacy. This employee deserved to be heard, mediated, or given another chance. He was well-liked by customers and was a valuable team member. I have also talked to other customers who have attempted to communicate their dissatisfaction to corporate without receiving any response regarding their concerns. Even though they were told that corporate would certainly respond to us within 48 hours. Why is that? Is this company discriminating against employees or conspiring against them? Was this decision made out of jealousy? How could Wawa treat someone so kind and good in this manner? Is there favoritism within this company? Where is the freedom in this? What our country stands for is freedom of speech, respect, kindness, understanding, beliefs, all religions, all ethnicities, all genders, all orientations, and people being who they are, etc. No judgement and the most important thing is the worth of people. He was worth more than what he had gotten. Does Wawa not have levels of disciplinary actions? If so then you should terminate EVERYONE in the numerous stores because of the words that have been used behind the scenes and in front of customers by associates and managers. That can be seen as offensive by ANYONE. Talking explicitly in front of customers is offensive. It's just as offensive as a simple word IN A JOKING MANNER, associates talking like this daily, AND EVEN apologizing immediately after saying it and realizing he upset the coworker, who is now back in rehab after yet another relapse? If you went through all of the tapes, I guarantee you would have to fire more than half of your staff. Anything considered a VULGAR/curse word right? I mean this very respectfully and as a very concerned person. Wawa did lose numerous customers due to this. He was such a courteous and helpful employee. Wawa claims to care about its customers and should care about its employees. Especially those who have been with the company faithfully. But apparently, they have a weird way of showing it. Does Wawa do background checks? They recently had a gentleman get arrested, and they did not use their real name while working.

This guy, who cried to the manager over a silly word in a joking manner, only worked there for approximately 6 months. While one of their dependable employees was there for NINE YEARS!

Big babies. Harming living comfort right before Thanksgiving, while their partner was getting ready to conceive, and Christmas right around the corner. People go to Wawa out of convenience, so good for you and your millions, but your motto is wrong. You are not for the people.

Went in last night (technically this morning) around 1am while on my way home from visiting family. I had a few scratch off lottery tickets that I wanted to cash in. Well Wawa has a policy that they don't cash in lottery tickets between midnight and 6am, so I couldn't cash them in- but I'm not upset about that because I understand that Wawa has their policies that the employees have to follow. What I'm upset about is how to associate acted towards me. He was an older gentleman and immediately began to give me an attitude as soon as he saw the lottery tickets. He told me I couldn't cash them in because of the time and I was confused because I didn't know about the policy they had, and I had gone to a different Wawa (right down the road) about a month ago and cashed in lottery tickets and it was after midnight. Since I was confused, I mentioned to the associate that I was able to cash lottery tickets in before after midnight and he cut me off and raised his voice at me and shouted "Not here you didn't!" If he would have let me finish my sentence, he would have known that it was at a different Wawa location. After he raised his voice he just turned around and started to walk away from me. Trying to be polite I just thanked him and said "Have a good night" and he responded with a mumbled sarcastic "yeah" or something. To be very clear: I'm not upset that I couldn't cash in my lottery tickets, I'm upset that Wawa would allow one of their employees to act that way towards customers. The associate seemed absolutely miserable and was completely disrespectful. To make matters worse I think he was the night manager or supervisor, so that means he's spreading his negative energy to all of the other associates as well. I'm hoping he was just having a bad night and that he isn't...

I come from a professional background and would like to address the recent firing of a young employee in their early 30s over a word that is commonly used. I have personally heard similar language from your staff during my visits, and a current employee informed me that the word in question was not used in front of customers but was said jokingly behind the scenes.

Being offended is something that everyone experiences, and I have heard the employee who was offended make some quite inappropriate remarks right outside your store, which should be a greater concern. I know the individual who reported this issue to management over something so minor. A word does not define one's character, and the terminated employee deserves an apology and a better outcome.

It is true that those who think outside the box, as well as family-oriented individuals who consider the bigger picture, are often overlooked today. Wawa should strive to do better for its employees. Please consider reaching out to this person to acknowledge their worth, as they have demonstrated significant value to your company.
