Doesn’t live up to the hype! Our service was the bright spot, everything else was just eh, and a couple of things were not very good at all. Prices are what you’d expect for a place like this, but I can point you in the direction of a couple far better local Mexican restaurants for far cheaper. Some people come here for the atmosphere and the show, but what does it matter, and who cares, if the food isn’t good?
I had heard that their birria was incredible. I was excited to try it, and ordered the birria platter to get a little taste of each way that they served it. It was dry, chewy, and lacking a lot of flavor. Their consume was watery, and their birria ramen was a joke (I know, what did I expect with that?). The platter offered so much meat, but it was so dry and nearly flavorless, that I was glad to leave it unfinished after feeling my gut stuffed with subpar beef. I visited a smaller restaurant a few weeks ago that had consume that I drank after I finished the tacos because it was so good. Google tells me that this other restaurant is called “my beautiful town”.
My second disappointment was their guacamole! It was fresh as advertised, but the ingredients were not cut up well, and it wasn’t mixed very well. It really turned out to be hardly more than six ingredients thrown and stirred together in a bowl. It was severely lacking salt, too chunky, and just lacking flavor overall. My current reigning champion favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, Tacos Mexico, has taught me some secrets about great guacamole, and Los Compadres is far off.
These two items on the menu were the main factors in my low review. I’m sure that they have some other items on the menu that are great, but after a miss on two big hitters, I don’t want to try to find the really good menu items. Not very favorable.
Response to owner: I review a lot of local restaurants, and am intentional to be blunt, for the customers’ sake. You proclaim to have an open door customer policy for criticism, but also get very angry when something ticks you off. I am never harsh for the sake of being harsh, just honest accordingly to my experiences, and very willing to pay a significant amount for food...
Read moreMy fiance and I were pretty excited to try this new Mexican restaurant. We were sat and ordered some drinks. we took our time looking at the menu and the waitress checked on us a few times to see if we were ready to order. approximately 15 minutes go by and regardless of the waitress coming to check on us I still had to get up and go to the bar to remind her that we had ordered drinks.
My fiance ordered a carnita taco and a special burrito (luchadore? maybe) and I ordered a Chile relleno. they brought us a carne asada taco and when we asked to clarify what we had ordered the waitress doubled down and told us it was a carnitas taco. okay. we later confirmed from the bill given to us at the end of the meal that it was indeed a steak taco and not carnitas. the meat was extremely dry and it was overall not a very impressive taco. the burrito I will admit was decent (the bites I had) however my fiance said the sauce was not entirely even throughout. it had steak and shrimp with French fries inside. my chile relleno was so drowned and stuffed with cheese I really dont understand what the chef is thinking. it really didnt have a lot of the red sauce that normally comes with a chile relleno. just cheese cheese and more cheese. I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years. I can handle honest mistakes. I wouldnt even say they were that busy. 2 waitresses and maybe a manager with maybe 6 tables. the cherry on top and what really irked me was we paid for our meal, split the bill on 2 cards. the waitress brings us the split checks back and my card is missing. our waitress is busy so I go up to the counter to ask the lady at the register if she has seen my card. she doesnt even look around and just looks straight at me and tells me it's not up theree.i start looking on the floor. I look on my table. no where to be found. eventually the waitress and the lady who told me it wasnt at the register starts moving things on the table around looking for my card seemingly annoyed. couldnt find it. finds it at the register eventually.. wow. I cant think of a worse restaurant experience in the...
Read moreBeen here at least a dozen times, and always a good experience. This evening, however, we had a very bad experience. The manager knows us by now by our same order that we always place, but this time a different employee answered the phone when we were placing our pickup order. First of all, we never pay over the phone and always pay in-store as that is our preference, which the manager has no issue with. However, the lady who answered was very rude in her tone and was insinuating that she did not believe that we would come to pick up our order since we did not want to pay over the phone, and insisted that we needed to be there in ten minutes and absolutely no later than that!
When we arrived exactly ten minutes later, we paid and heard the women telling each other “oh, he’s here!” We then had to wait 30 minutes for our food to be done, meaning that they had not made any of it since they did not believe that we would be picking it up. She even told us to drive around the restaurant so that she could give an order to the car behind us because our order was still not done!! Once we finally got our meal, she had forgotten the horchata, saying, “I didn’t charge you for that, but I’ll just give you it anyways.” even though she read back our order on the phone and said horchata!!
Extremely unprofessional and so sad to assume that everyone is trying to scam them when placing an over-the-phone order. Honestly not sure if we will be returning after this, but we will definitely be informing the manager of this terrible customer...
