More food - chef wanted me to try his teriyaki chicken bowl which usually is a standard plain jane dish. Usually some sugary soy based sauce with stir fry veggies, borderline dry chicken, and rice. Chef honestly elevated this dish. Tender chunks of soy braised chicken are very tasty and fall apart at the lightest pressure. The scallion sauce adds a nice contrasting note to the sweet soy flavors along with some crunchy fried garlic and fried onions to help with texture and more flavor. Dare I say, ask for a fried egg. Even without, it was nor your typical teriyaki rice bowl. Good job chef.
Update - Google says it's been 4 months since I last was here. Got a hankering for ramen again and when I walked in, the chef remembered me. I love when that happens. Guess we both love talking food and honestly, I can appreciate he is trying to perfect his craft. He told me how he read my review and he made changes to the broth. So of course, I had to try the updated spicy chili ramen. He now infuses chili oil and adds it at the end which gives broth drinkers a much more pleasant final slurps. Also, the addition of some hot pepper sprinkle also adds a nice heat on the throat although ask for more because the normal amount is for the more bland crowd. Almost a 5 star but I told the chef what will get him there for me but I understand his point.
Tried his special today: dandan mian noodles. Much different version than what my family makes but very delicious in it's own right. The addition of a soft fried egg just wraps the noodles nicely when mixed with the meat and tahini based sauce. Really enjoyed the texture of the noodles he uses too. They have a nice chew to them.
Will be back to try a new ramen he's developing with more of a citrus flavor.
Original: Dropped in on a cold Saturday, looking for a new ramen place to lift the spirits when I found this gem. Small little shop but does have some parking to quickly pickup orders. I tried their spicy special ramen, tonkatsu ramen, and a boba. Both ramen had the char siu pork. I enjoyed the smooth and fatty broth of the tonkatsu ramen better than the special. The chili they add into the spicy special doesn't dissolve well so there's an unpleasant textural component like shrimp skin when drinking the broth. Noodles were nice and chewy however I would go with a thicker cut of the pork. Oh, perfect soft boiled egg! Also, talked to the staff and they were wonderful as it felt like to family operation.. I wish this venue well as it'll be very busy in the summers in...
Read moreWow!! What amazing food. I’ve been here twice now and both times it’s been incredible! I got the Thai red curry soup.. and a beef gyudon rice bowl.. My roommate got a Thai red curry bowl as well.. each one of these bowls easily weighed about a 1 1/2 pounds. Each was jam packed with food and flavor. This place is always consistent and is always packed (which to me is a great sign). When you go there, plan on waiting about 15 minutes for your order because everything is made to order- it’s worth the wait for every delectable bite, trust me on this.. The beef in the beef bowl is so tender... and I love the sticky rice on the bottom which was so flavorful because the flavors from the toppings seeped down into the rice making it so incredibly delicious! I also love the fact that he offers the option of making it spicy at whatever spice level you prefer, from 1-10. I added some sriracha to mine as you can see in the picture (beef bowl). The chicken in the Thai red curry soup was as soft as “mashed potatoes” as my roommate said.. it was so tender and fell apart and melted in our mouths... The flavor of the broth was rich and deep and could tell that the broth had simmered all day.. It was so good that the hums and moans that came out of our mouths were almost scandalous! 🤣🤣. Truth!! 🙏🏼 This young chef has his sh^t together and seriously on another level. His stuff is as good, if not better than some ramen restaurants in the big cities.. If you’re in the Hampton Beach area, take a ride over.. and even if you’re not, take a ride up here just to enjoy this destination of a high end ramen experience.. you will NOT be...
Read moreHaving lived in Japan for a while, had you told me I would have to go to Hampton Beach to get Ramen as good as the motherland I would've laughed at you and yet here we are. MomoYo Ramen offers you the japanese experience the moment you enter the shop. Not knowing exactly what to expect I stepped in and was instantly brought back to Japan with the seating arrangements, the interior decor, the open kitchen and direct access to the chef. I ordered the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen and when the bowl was served to me it presented exactly how it was back in Japan. For me, the noodles are just as important as broth when it comes to Ramen and I could tell the noodles were locally made and I could tell by the broth that it was prepared by a passionate chef just by the way it tasted. The Ramen was so good to me that I ordered another bowl without a second thought. Hands down best Ramen I have had since returning from Japan a little over 3 yrs ago and I am originally from Florida. Bravo...
