I really like this bakery and have been going there for pan dulce since I moved to the area about 5 years ago. I've noticed that the quality has been going down. On a couple occasions I've bought pan dulce that tasted salty. My most recent issue was with some ojos that I bought this past weekend. They were not thoroughly cooked and the top was gummy. I've also had this experience with ojos once or twice before.
My other issue happened this past summer. I ordered a cake with chocolate filling, the girl wrote 'choco' instead of the full word and it was mistaken for coco, as in coconut. My cake had coconut filling instead of chocolate filling. We ate the cake because I didn't notice until we cut the cake at the party and it was too late by then to take it back. I went into the bakery a few days later for my usual bakery run and decided to mention it to the person at the register as an FYI. She questioned that I ordered correctly and basically said they don't make mistakes, that they will bake the cake as ordered... I didn't have the paper for the order with me as I wasn't really planning on saying anything, but I did think it was worth mentioning because I know people with coconut allergies. It was a strange experience for me and I hope it doesn't...
Read moreAlthough they make great breads and cakes, I recently had a terrible experience. I bought a cake and normally when they box it up and hand it to you, they tape the box to make sure it's secure. This time, the person that helped me did NOT tape up the box so imagine our surprise when the box came undone and the cake slid out, fell and was ruined! I immediately called to let them know but the girl that answered me was very rude and condescending, placing the blame on us since it had already left the store and wasn't ruined at their location. It's not like we're doing jumping jacks holding the cake! And we didn't want a free cake since the party was already taking place and this location was 20 miles away. I was trying to at least get our money back since we couldn't enjoy the cake and because the box wasn't sealed properly. But the girl that answered didn't want to hear it and just kept repeating that there was nothing they could do. Needless to say I am very disappointed and frustrated with the customer service of this recent experience. As a result, I am giving 2 stars because let's face it, their products are delicious. All the more reason this experience was so...
Read moreWe stopped by Azteca Bakery in Streamwood for ice cream and had a great time. We decided to dine in and sat at a table. My son loved his coconut on a chocolate-dipped sprinkle waffle cone, though he had a challenging time ripping the paper away from the cone, which got a bit messy. The pistachio ice cream I tried was good—it had plenty of pistachio bits and a nice flavor, though it was a little too sweet for my personal taste. Being able to sample flavors beforehand was a big plus. We were a little over $10 out the door for the ice cream.
The bakery has a wide variety of baked goods, including some of the largest cake pops I've ever seen, along with drinks and snacks. There were plenty of helpful staff available. It got busy for a moment, and I felt a bit unseen, but help was on the way quickly. Just a heads-up: there's no bathroom available, so plan accordingly. Overall, it was an enjoyable visit and the prices were very reasonable. We ended up getting a donut and bread pudding to go, too, which was a...
