I love this place for breakfast and lunch foods, but the bakery items I have tried (scones and cakey items) are typically rather dry. Warm and fruity beverages are pretty basic, and only work as meal accompaniments -- I often just stick with water. But the cold milkshakes are great in the summer, though I'd probably ask for less sugar the next time I get them. In the winter, I get either hot cocoa or coffee, which is perfectly adequate but not mind blowing. The basic coffee comes with refills, so it's a good way to load up on caffeine if one is so inclined. The Big Green (or the Little Green for those that eat less) is a hearty, comforting, and quite customizable American breakfast. The pancakes tend to be soggy though, so I always get the French toast option instead. Their home fries are great, but the black beans are hands down their best side, and nowadays I always pick black beans whenever there is a choice of side. All the meats and breads are also good. You can also get the Country breakfast instead, which is the Big Green minus the griddle option. I have tried some other breakfasts, which are quite good and also very customizable, but the Big Green remains my favorite. Anyway, they let you make any meal a combo by adding a griddle option, which is great. In general, Lou's offers a lot of customization, sometimes beyond what is mentioned on the menu. If I have one crib about their breakfasts, it is that they often don't get eggs over medium right, leaning over easy or over hard -- but then again, who ever has gotten over medium right all the time? I order over easy on most days, so I'll live if they get my occasional over medium wrong. As for lunch: I have only just started exploring lunch at Lou's and I already LOVE their Reuben sandwich. Breakfast and Lunch are both served as long as the kitchen is open, so Lou's is an excellent brunch place as well. Overall, a cosy and welcoming place for a hearty meal and excellent service, with the bonus of being an iconic local business. However, there are better options nearby if you just want coffee and a muffin. I am more of a hearty meal person, so I will never stop going to Lou's! And because I love Lou's, I will also keep trying more bakery items to see if I end up liking something. Thinking of Lou's is making me hungry -- perhaps I will pop in tomorrow morning!
Update: try the maple bacon cruller and the homemade strawberry jam. And a shout-out to...
Read moreSo the baked goods looked delicious. However, that being said; My boyfriend has not eaten meat in 15 years. He ordered a vegetarian omelette and home fries. I ordered eggs Benedict with a pancake on the side. Well, A short period of time waiting, Our waitress delivers our food, and my boyfriend takes one bite into his omelette and immediately spits it out.
This omelette does not just have bacon in it, it has probably a pound at least of bacon in it. I explained to the server when she came back over, my boyfriend is as he said a vegetarian and has just eaten for the first time in 15 years. She says oh God, Can I get you something else? Without even apologizing.
He says absolutely not and tells me to just eat my breakfast. Of course I could not just do that. He goes to the car to throw up, and hand me his credit card to pay Even though we weren’t even gonna eat the food; he is to good of a man. She comes over and rather than apologizing she says, yeah that was the kitchen’s fault. The cow couldn’t even muster the courage to take accountability for the fact that she clearly grabbed the wrong omelette. Even after the fact.
I will say I tried to pay for the food and she said no that we were all set, Again still not even apologizing so I had to look her in the eyes and say wow you can’t even muster up the courage to apologize. This poor excuse for a server, Decides to double down and tell me “ It was the kitchen’s fault I told you”. I couldn’t Believe what I was hearing. As someone who was a server for almost 10 years. I have never seen someone take such a little accountability.
To be honest, the pancake was absolutely horrible. I tried to take one bite when my boyfriend went to The car to throw up, and it was absolutely uneditable. I don’t know if she accidentally gave us a gluten-free pancake, but that’s what it tasted like. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, I employ you to please dig through your food before taking a bite from Anything at this restaurant…
The hostesses were nice, and we We’re seated only after five or 10 minutes so other than that besides a terrible service it’s a nice atmosphere. I’ll...
Read moreI really want a 3.5 stars. I have enjoyed Lous for many years, they produce quality food by using good ingredients and proven menu. Between coming under new ownership and these covid times, it has changed a bit. A lot more takeout, eating outside and only a few people allowed to eat inside at a time. Now I probably would have given them 3 stars because of how my food has been trending down the last several times I went, but I gave 4 stars because they have been a great place to bring family and friends as well as a delicious place to eat breakfast and lunch over the years. I won't go into great detail about my food the last few times but it has changed. For example I ordered a burrito and french toast last time. The burrito was decent but small, more like a half burrito, and lacked seasoning but nothing I couldn't fix on my own. The French toast was pretty much just toast. Not sure if they are moving to quickly or not paying attention, but it was cold and nothing like I remember. I love the corn beef hash but last time it was oddly greasy; not appealing or tasty. The egg dishes are good, as long as you get them hot, I don't recommend take out for these. Speaking of take out, it is hit or miss. I understand they are doing a lot of orders during this pandemic, however I have had to come back on multiple occasions for missing things even before this covid started, and of course there are instances in which I don't have the time to turn around to come back, which is frustrating. A good thing I can say is I like the menu but really look forward to seeing what is on the specials menu. Also more importantly their breads they use are great and their pastry chef always can produce good pies, cakes, cookies and muffins as long as they are fresh- same day. Service is good, I love the people who work there and have come to know many of them, only comment is things are slower now. I understand these times are difficult, so I hope when things get back to normal,...
