Sigh.. Wanted to love this place, drove past on numerous occasions, and then we read the article about how the bakery came to be, which put Shugah Hill on my must visit list. My wife and I stopped in on an early Sunday afternoon, we opened the door to find we were the only customers, not only were we not greeted by the young lady working the counter but we also were not greeted by the smell of fresh baked goods. It was as quiet as a library, and the choices were not very summer themed.. But we chose to get a sampling. I really loved the concept behind this bakery, and we love supporting Mom & Pop or, in this case, Mom ×3 businesses. We got the order to go... there was a square 10x10 box, a smaller 6x6 box, and 2 cup cakes in plastic holders.. we had to ask for a bag... we were not offered one, maybe she likes jugglers? Anyway... We got a brownie, oddly texture was fudgy, flavor was unidentifiable, and lacked chocolate and salt. The seven layer bar texture was dry & crumbly, flavor was overly sweet but again no vanilla bean or salt, chocolate chip cookie, texture dry, no butter, salt or vanilla, oatmeal raisin, texture was chewy which was nice but the overall flavor was lackluster.. More cinnamon, please, the mini babka.. This was a highlight.. Although the texture was on the dry side ( could this be because of the case not being refridgerated???) the overall flavor was well balanced and delicious, the mini German apple cake was so pretty, texture was gummy, apples oddly chewy, flavor was OK. The best thing we ate, which we agreed we would go back for, were the cupcakes.. The vanilla flavor was slightly underwhelming, but the texture and crumb were perfection, but the butter cream frosting was next level.. The chocolate cupcake was 100% amazing. I hope this helps, I still love the concept. We will probably give it another...

Read moreHeard some good things about Shugah Hill Bakery and thought we would try it. Stopped into the store and right away there was a not so pleasant odor instead the store rather than the usual expected freshly baked goods smell. The store is nicely decorated. Not many selections to choose from on display. Chose a blueberry cake, a mini chocolate Bundt cake, oatmeal cookie and almond biscotti. The oatmeal cookie was a bit mushy and fell apart as I picked it up and the flavor was a bit too sweet for my taste. The rest of the pastries were either tasteless or not enough of something. The texture of the Bundt cake was like a flourless cake, dry, dense and stale. The blueberry cake was also dry and stale. Will not be...
