We just had the most incredible night of our families life. My 13 year old just said, if I ever become a waiter I want to model myself after Servado. I have never written a restaurant review with the major part of our reaction based on a waiter. But, I have to tell you that with 2 teenage boys who walked in there with big scowels on their faces I was dreading our family night out. Then comes our waiter Servado and with natural charm, kindness, sensitivity and the best service you could ask for. Not only was the Gorgonzola Bacon Dip to die for. Seriously, if I wouldn't have split up that dish 5 even ways someone would have gotten hurt. (Plus I was able to enjoy it because they brought out a fresh gluten free flatbread). My daughter ordered the kids Hawaiian, 13 yr old ordered his pepperoni, my husband and I split a Bacon Bianca with added chicken on gluten free crust(insanely flavor packed). My 14 yr old ordered a custom pizza but when they brought it out Servado appologized sincerely that they accidentally added green onions to it. However, he put a massive smile on my grumpy sons face when he said he would bring him out a new one without onions but he could keep that one. Nothing brings a smile to a teenagers face than another whole pizza to himself. I had my happy son back from that moment on. The fire oven baked pizza was incredible. Even more surprising is that my husband and I were shocked how the gluten free dough had so much texture, still springy and excellent flavor. When you have tried almost everyone's gluten free dough you know you found a winner if you prefer it to a gluten one. Now the dessert, hit it out of the park. On to THE Happy Ending - cast iron skillet with baked soft cookie dough topped with vanilla Ice Cream. We were like crazy vultures fighting over every gooey melt in your mouth chocolaty bite. My 13 yr old on the other hand was in heaven when Servado brought him out his favorite dessert, cheesecake. My son begged to have his picture taken with the best waiter in the world and his prized cheesecake.
All that to say, every single one of us would go back just to see Servado. He made you feel like family and I saw when we were leaving other guests felt the same way hugging him when they left. I have never been somewhere where the waiter was so friendly, so attentive to cheer up my kids, promptly taking every dish and filling every empty glass. Service combined with out of this world delicious food will bring our family back time and time again. As local small business owners ourselves, we know how much it means to us when our clients are blown away with our employees. So we wanted to make sure the owners of Happy Hallow know what a treasure they have on their hands. Servado, if you ever read this please know our kids talked about your kindness and awesomeness all the way home. You are one in a billion and we can't wait to come back and enjoy Happy Hallow with you again. Tim & Rachelle Layzell (Isaac,...
Read moreOooh I wanted to like this place so much! I went there for the first time two nights ago, and they seemed pretty busy in the main dining area. No host at the front, and the servers ignored us for the first five minutes we were standing at the host stand. In their defense, there appeared to only be two servers in the main dining room, and probably 12-ish tables seated. Fine, understandable.
Once we were seated, the service was very good. Unfortunately, the food is really not good. My friend ordered a margarita pizza (after trying to order an impossible burger listed on the menu - the server came back and said not only are they out right now but they haven't had them in a while... like, wut? Take it off the menu then?) I was hoping for a Solstice type pizza (Hood River, they're realllly good wood fired pizza) but I'm not sure how a wood fired pizza oven makes floppy, non-crispy pizza crust? It's bizarre. It even comes out on this expensive looking serving plate that has a mesh the pizza sits on to keep air moving below the crust and ostensibly to keep the crust crispy. Alas. Anyways, the toppings for the pizza are not good either. The pizza sauce tasted like it came from a can (legit, my friend took one bite, and was like, is this Ragu? Like, the stuff at the store), and the sliced mozzarella on the margarita pizza tasted like the low moisture house brand at the grocery store.
I ordered chicken tenders (wasn't feeling like pizza) and I they were bad. Like, I don't know how you mess that up. It tasted like they microwave defrosted the chicken (it was clearly made from frozen), then fried it. The edges were really tough and the batter was flavorless and not crispy. I paid extra for sweet potato fries, and they were limp and lifeless. Bummer.
Y'all, I really, really wanted to like this place. It's close to my house and having a legit wood fired pizza place nearby would have been amaze. Unfortunately, this place isn't it. At least not for pizza or chicken tenders. :/ The bar looked popping tho, maybe their other menu...
Read moreupdated from 1 star After reaching out they apologized for the burnt pizza. I gave them another chance and picked up another margherita pizza on my way from work. It tasted exactly how it should, slight smoky flavor and could taste the rest of the ingredients with no problem. Thank you for listening and showing genuine concern, it shows you're passionate about your business. Previous review I have had their pizza before once, ~3 months ago and it was pretty good. Couple of days ago I decided to eat out again since I've been eating at home to save money, I was excited to get their margherita pizza. But when I bit into I noticed it tasted completely burnt, the top part was fine but the bottom was completely charred. I called to ask if this was a mistake and they could do something but was put on hold for 10 minutes. Decided I was too hungry and wasn't going to drive back to get another anyway. I ate a couple of slices because I was starving and had to throw the rest out because it tasted like charcoal and nothing else. 🙁 Not best bang for my buck and I'd like to continue supporting local businesses, but this type of stuff...
