Bangkok 56 — Restaurant in Harrisburg

We went to Bangkok 56 for the second time yesterday after a great "first time" experience. We took another family along to show how great it was. However we were really sorry to them after the horrible experience yesterday. There is no doubt that food is flavourful and fresh. But it seems that too much praise has gotten to their heads and made the owner too arrogant. We had two year old twins with us who are bound to be naughty and we eat out regularly at family restaurants and never ever has some one objected so much. These guys had a problem even with our kids standing on chair or moving menu cards and kept reminding us to mind our kids. The plates, cutlery and condiments were not served promptly when half the place was empty. We went on a Sunday noon. Then i found a stone in my soup which i would have normally ignored but yesterday I didn't so i pointed it out. Apparently the owner herself was cooking and she came out fuming that she would like to see the stone and it was impossible since she cooked it. Rather than apologizing or replacing it, she wanted to pick a fight! We just ignored her call and asked the server if we should leave coz we didn't wanna create a scene. However he sincerely apologized and made us feel really comfortable and made sure we were well taken care of. He really tried his best to make up for that terrible situation and I appreciate him for that. Usually owners do the apologizing and not the employees. I really love Bankok’s food and their staff is excellent! We’ve been many times over the years but didn’t notice all the “changes” until we were there for lunch. Starting with a really bad parking lot that made it difficult for my wheelchair, seeing how unkept the entry way is (garbage bins exposed and sloppy area) to outside paint that needed sprucing up. Going up the ramp you see signs scotch-taped everywhere. The door was heavy and the threshold was missing a chunk making it difficult to manage the heavy door and get me inside. I do love the decor and wouldn’t change it but again, there’s repainting to be done. The seating is very nice. Outside the bathroom were jugs of cleaning supplies and inside, thou very clean, needs new paint and an additional verticle handicap grab bar as well. Now, we’re very concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen. If owners don’t take care of the obvious things how long has it been since the kitchen has been cleaned - thoroughly? I’m not sure how Bankok 56 was awarded “Harrisburg’s Best 2018”. Yes, it has the best food but It’s WAY over due for an an overhaul! Not sure we’ll return until it’s cleaned up, repainted and de-cluttered. Don’t forget to remove all the taped copies of “Harrisburg’s Best 2018”. The official sign hung outside is what customers want to see. Make Bankok 56 an “A-1” place to eat again. It deserves it! ...

The food is delicious but the chef has a very bad attitude. I still recommend though. Despite the one bad encounter, it wasnt enough to keep me away. Thats how delicious the food is! I have tried numerous dishes and not one of them have disappointed me. Just to give you and idea of what they have, look at the pictures of the menu i took. I highly suggest the E9

2019 update. Still A favorite place to eat. I once have this place 5 stars but recently decided to change my review because of the owners attitudes. They really couldn't Care less about their customers. I pointed out how dirty the chairs were and the owners told me that if I didn't like it,I could go somewhere else. I was really nice about it and figured she didn't know...... in actuality she didn't Care. Even her workers were complaining about her to me. The owners are her and the cook. The workers were Apologizing for her nasty behavior and said they always have to put up with it. The food here is delicious but the place and Owners are nasty. I have photos attached.

2021 Update- the prices on the menu are not accurate. There is no “Lunch Option” prices anymore. They charge dinner prices for it all. You do not get the same amount for takeout as you do for dine in for certain dishes. The takeout is not as good for some reason and all the prices seem to have gone up. This place is slowly...
