El Charro — Restaurant in Harrisonburg

This place has really gone downhill I will go to the other two I will never go to this one again. Been going to their restaurants since I was a child and I'm 35 now. As a long time customer it's really sad to see. Beware when you order stuff for takeout or to go because you won't get the same size as you would get if you ordered it for done in they are charging $4 for a ramekin size cheese dip where is it normally a bowl when you order it as a dine-in customer which is ridiculous and when we said something about it we got told well that's what they do now and said nothing when we said that's not what the other two do. Also if you get a gift card from the one in Bridgewater this one does not accept it. Which tells me this one is owned by different people than the other two and I will be giving my service and my money to the other two El charro's in the area from this point on and I recommend other people do the same! Such a shame once a good place has gone downhill and don't care about literally scamming your customers out of money that get stuff to go versus eating in!!! I used to say that this was the only one that I would eat at now I'm saying complete opposite if that tells you anything!! The management and owners should really reconsider how they do business and treat their customers especially ones that have supported them throughout the decades!!! This used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in Harrisonburg. You used to get what you paid for and the service was always good. I’m not sure what has happened but this isn’t the same place and I will no longer be returning. For starters we had an order worth $60, we order extra cheese on all three meals with a side of spicy sauce. Not only did we not get our extra cheese that they charged us for but when I went in to get it fix. Who ever was at the front desk had the audacity to charge me for the spicy sauce twice after they got it wrong the first time. They also messed up on our drink order. And only gave us one bag of chips with salsa for 3 separate take out orders smh. We didn’t get any apology. They made me feel like I was crazy and I was the one who was wrong. I will never return to this location ever again in life. I highly recommend going to a different Mexican restaurant or location. Money is tight for everyone right now, please do not cheat your loyal customer out of what they are paying for it...

We drove in on a way back from vacation. Just were hungry and needed a little break from long drive. Regardless how hungry we were, as soon as we tried one corn tortilla chip, we just walked out. The oil they fry chips in is sooooo old that chip was badly bitter, to chocking level. Salsa was simple tomato sauce with a little hot kick to it. Did they just open can of tomato sauce and use it as salsa? We looked around and floors were dirty, windows in bad not cleaned condition. If customer area is that bad, just imagine kitchen. I don't know who puts high ratings for restaurant who doesn't have an edible starter even. I don't believe they have good food or that it's healthy.
