A couple of buddies and I went to Don Alejo for my friends 21st birthday, they all live about 35 minutes away but I had always bragged about how good the food and margaritas were so they wanted to try it out. I ordered a margarita and they checked my id but said they couldn't serve me because I wasnt old enough (im 21 about to turn 22 in 2 months). So after arguing with the manager and two waiters for 10 minutes on how I was old enough they finally serve me one but with NO ALCOHOL. So then my buddy whose birthday it is orders one and they tell him they cant serve him one because they dont know WHAT TIME he turned 21 the day of his birthday. So not only did it look bad on me but also changed the opinions of 10 people that day. Not to mention they messed our checks up and were yelling at eachother about it in front of customers at the cash register. There's no telling what I paid for because two people shouldn't be 50 dollars? They were rude and I WILL NEVER COME BACK. I am a regular and eat there atleast 5 times a month with usually a good group of people that tip really well. We will be taking our business else where, probably down the road to El Portal, where we should've went in the...

I'm very disappointed in this man's attitude with me and you're going to lose a lot of business When I Leave You because it ain't just me we have family gatherings there and...
Read moreMy folks had us come down to Hartselle to try Don Alejos. They absolutely love the flaming cheese. I didn't enjoy it as much, tho. It was a Sunday and my mom insisted we get there before the church crowd. The staff was courteous and mostly prompt. The chips were way over cooked for me, tho the salsa was passable. As usual I ordered the Camarones Diabla. The shrimp was slightly undercooked and the "red sauce" (brown like mole) was not spicy at all. The mole sauce was actually pretty good, but it simply wasn't even remotely spicy. Mom had nachos. She asked for a half order and received a full. Dad had flaming cheese and was delighted. Brother had huevos with chorizo and didn't like it at all. He said the chorizo was aweful. The church crowd did start coming in and in the span of a half hour the restaurant was packed. This speaks to the community's support, and probably why they refused to serve beer on a Sunday. So to recap: chips overcooked, camerones undercooked, red sauce was brown and while tasty, not spicy, and no beer on Sunday....
