We went to Gold Post because McAlister's next door was super busy. We should have waited. The whole restaurant feels greasy. The order taker couldn't have cared less about what the customers wanted. The girl who called out numbers when the orders were complete was nowhere near service oriented. When my friend told her that she had ordered onion rings instead of fries, she shrugged her shoulders and told my friend that was her order. I was next in line and heard the order-taker say, "She DID order fries." The server said, "Oh well." Nothing was done. My friend ate her fries.
My other friend asked what would come on her sandwich. The order-taker neglected to tell her that mustard would be on it. Rather than cause a scene, she scraped all the condiments off.
My own sandwich was barbecued chicken. Imagine my disgust when I saw something odd sticking out of the side and lifted the top bun to see.... a gigantic piece of skin...enough to cover an entire breast piece. I found a second piece of skin as big as a thigh piece. This meant that about half the "meat" on my sandwich was barbecued skin. I thought the friend across from me was going to throw up on the spot. None of us ate much of our lunch, and I don't think any of us will ever go...
Read more--- there are a lot of restaurants that serve outstanding shrimp po-boys -- [some are legendary, such as Lil' Ray's in Waveland ( now gone but still alive and well in Long Beach ) and Catalina's in Pascagoula ( still here but not the original ), and new ones such as The Front Porch in the woods North of DeLisle. ] - the Gold Post isn't one of them. First, it is NOT a "New Orleans style" po-boy - they use the wrong bread - it is some kind of hoagie bun, NOT French Bread at all. Second, it is tiny - like, really tiny. Third,. there isn't much shrimp on it ( it's tiny, remember ? ). Fourth, it is terrible - inedible terrible ( one bite and a second nip of a single shrimp just to see if it really is that terrible - it is ). Fifth, it is super expensive for what you get ( tiny terrible sandwich and limp fries will beat down a $20 bill to 'not-much-left' ). Strangely, I ate here in the not so distant past ( it was in 2022 ) and the cost was way less, the shrimp was way better, and while the sandwich wasn't any bigger, or the bread any closer to being French, it , overall, was a decent meal at a reasonable value - no longer. With some 3/4 of a century of shrimp po-boy experience, I can declare this the worse I have ever...
Read moreI went through the drive-through at 2PM. Bought 3 poboys and asked for red sauce. Got my poboys and went home. Opened them up, no red sauce. Called and told them. An employee said, "Sorry about that, the drive thru usually messes this stuff up." Transferred me to the manager, to which he told me, " I've written your name down. When you come back through, you can get some red sauce." I told him I lived 45 minutes away and wouldn't make it back to Hattiesburg today. He was speechless. Like, what's the point of getting the sauce another day, once I've already eaten the poboy?Needless to say, I'm upset. The management and employees (those working the drive thru) need to be fired. The only reason I gave them one star is because the food was...
