Beer Lovers Heaven With Great Food - Downtown Location We were road tripping and happened to visit Hattiesburg just to see what there is to see. Well, Keg & Barrel is a must visit. We went to the downtown location which is a converted 1800’s home. The wrap around porch, numerous outdoor decks, patios and comfy interiors offer plenty of options to sit where you prefer. As it was warm during our visit they had numerous fans moving the air and we were very comfortable. We had a great server who made some suggestions so we started with the Boogie Bombs appetizer ($13.00). Five crisp fried balls of pimento cheese about two inches in diameter, drizzled with pepper jelly and sprinkled with green onion. Ooey gooey rich cheesy goodness, sweet heated with the pepper jelly. Man, these were good and we’re so glad our server recommended them. My wife ordered the Thai Lettuce Wraps ($13.00). This comes out as a build your own platter with a bowl of chunked up, spiced up (not too spicy) chicken, green onions, carrot shreds and lettuce leaves. Use the lettuce leaves as you would use pita bread or a tortilla to hold all the goodies, then top with the Thai peanut sauce. This was super good with a nice change of pace flavor. I ordered the Fish Tacos ($16.00) with blackened redfish. Three warmed flour tortillas in foil and a generous piece of perfectly perfectly seasoned and cooked redfish were accompanied with lettuce, pico de gallo, black beans, chipotle sour cream and salsa. I used all the toppings along with a squeeze of lime to make three tasty tacos. And let’s not forget the main attraction here. I think there are over 60 ‘live’ tap handles on a unique wall display in the bar. Go inside and check it out. It looks like it’s just decoration, but it’s a fully operational tap wall. Totally cool! Save yourself the agony of having to make a quick decision on the spot and study the beer menu on their website at home to at least have a plan of attack when you arrive. I wish I was close enough to go back often as it really hits all the...
Read moreI used to come here regularly but I no longer live in the area. The food was fine, but let's remember that you came here for the large variety of beer. I'm sure you can find something you like. I'm a foodie so we came here to eat.
We ordered the hummus, nachos and debris fries. Hummus was fine, but the veggies didn't seem fresh. Debris fries were surprisingly good, not everyone can nail these which is why I was surprised. My favorite appetizer was the nachos. I stuffed myself long after I was full. I couldn't stop eating them.
We also ordered (I forget the name) the burger with the fried jalapeños and the jalapeño bun (which was delicious) and a reuben which was fine. Honestly don't trust my opinion on the Reuben because you cannot convince me that people actually enjoy those. Gross. However my hamburger was delicious.
The service really was the part that was lacking here. Our server was fine but it just didn't seem like there was any order or direction with the wait staff. It seemed like all of them just grabbed a table to serve instead of having a designated area. This could just be the way they run things here, but in my opinion it's just making it more difficult for the staff to cover their tables in a timely and efficient manner. Just a thought.
Overall, I would come back. I've been to the one down in OS as well which seemed like they were two totally different restaurants (everything from the food, style and staff just seemed...
Read moreOwner was very unprofessional at West location I will repost below regarding the incident. While we had a great time at this location for their crawfish boil. Had to change stars here because his actions reflect to all of his locations. I have reviewed lots of wonderful local restaurants check 'em out! Some real gems in hattiesburg.
Keg west incident Upon bringing in question to the manager of our unsatisfactory service during our recent visit. Between wait times of temporarily running out of crawfish and the free for all of people grabbing as many plates as they could a stack at a time . We ask if it was possible to just pay for one 35 band since we did eat some we were told no basically and agreed to just buy both. I think that's understandable since we did both eat some. However we were promptly met at out table whom I assumed was the owner Miller lite in hand who asked if we had a problem we said no sir. We then were told that we were unhappy people who needed to take a long look in the mirror and that he didn't need our business. I was wearing a keg crawfish boil shirt I bought the week before for 35 dollars he told me" nobody asked/made you to buy the shirt"
Maybe they were having a bad day maybe we struck a cord when we said we enjoyed downtown the week before which was truly better organized and policed. I cannot and will never recommend this establishment or its other locations due to the unprofessionalism of its leadership...
