I was really looking forward to going to this restaurant, because I had read so many positive reviews about it. Unfortunately, my experience was one of the worst I could think of.
What we ate: Appetizer: Grilled pineapple with pulled pork and guacamole on top. Entrees: Pork belly sliders with fries & lamb sliders with fries.
Pros: Our waitress was nice and attentive. The drink that we had, which was the special for the summer, was delicious. Usually sitting at the bar is uncomfortable for me, but this time I did not feel uncomfortable because there was ample space and the chairs were very comfortable.
Cons: When my husband and I were seated at the back of the restaurant, next to the pizza station, we noticed that we seemed to be the butt of the joke for the cooks. They were looking in our direction and making jokes among each other and laughing. When our waitress saw that I was looking in their direction, she elbowed the cook that seemed to be making the most jokes, he looked at me, and stopped laughing and went back into the kitchen. I'm not sure what about us made us funny, but that's a terrible way to set up a good environment for customers. The food was generally terrible. Although the descriptions on the menu made the food sound heavenly and they did look great on the plate, the taste left a LOT to be desired. All the dishes had just one flavor that overrode every other flavor possible. The pineapple appetizer was completely sweet with very little contrast, the pork belly sliders were incredibly fatty with little to no taste of pork belly, and the lamb sliders were so salty that they weren't eaten. Last but not least, a few hours after eating the food from Brick & Brew, both of us got sick to our stomach and felt terrible the next day.
Would I recommend this restaurant? Sure, if you want food poisoning and being treated like a joke.
Note: This is for the Brick & Brew from Upper Darby. Most of the word of mouth positive comments about Brick & Brew were about the one in Media. I plan to go to the one in Media to test my luck and see if the service and food are better than this...
Read moreWent for lunch and dinner with a group of coworkers. Lunch experience was great. Molly, our server, was friendly, attentive, helpful and quick about getting our order in and our food out because we had a limited time. She kept our water glasses full (which was important cuz of the heat). The lunch we had was delicious and the location of our table delightful. So kudos and 5 stars to Molly!
Here’s why I’m only giving 3 stars: we came back to same night for dinner. Our server, Scott, told us he was training another server, which gave us the impression that he must be a good server.
This did not prove true. He served my colleague a flat beer. When my colleague told him it was flat, he just made excuses for why it was flat but never once made the offer to give him something else. When my colleagues wanted to know more about the whiskey flights, Scott offered no help and admitted to having no intel on the whiskey (which is unacceptable at a place that boasts having whiskey tastings). When my other colleague ordered the steak, Scott left to put our orders in, and then came back a few mins later to tell us they were out of steak. So my coworker had to order something else. He ordered a burger, and asked if he could get onion rings instead of fries (because they came with the steak). Scott immediately said, sorry can’t sub.
His trainee checked on us more times than he did, which is the only reason we didn’t go without water or flatware to eat with.
Where we were seated the floors were so sticky that my colleagues couldn’t move their chairs. So we ended up having to move the table to let them sit/stand.
The food we ordered was way overcooked (three of us got the green tomato grilled cheese and the bread and bacon was charred). It was late and we weren’t going to wait around for them to make us something else. So we ate and got out of there as quick as we could.
The place is decorated well and does have a cool vibe. But they need to evaluate/train their staff better and make sure things are clean (especially...
Read moreI am not giving "Brick & Brew", Havertown any stars and here's why: Entered establishment and was ignored by hostesses while they talked about other staff not doing their work. Hmmm? (then they walked away) One returned and said hi and how may I help you, response was: reservations for 2, and then she answered the phone. The second approached, said hello and ask how may I help you. Again, we said reservations for 2. Another staff came to hostess area and started a conversation with the hostess while we stood there, then a fourth person (manager) came up and joined the convo. We still just stood there. Finally, please follow me we heard. We were then escorted to our table which was located next to a glass door with a gap that created more than a draft. They okayed the table to be slid over some. Happy for a moment. I asked for my food to come at the same time because I got an appetizer as part of my meal. Didn't think we had to specify that the other person's meal come out at the same time too. Well, it didn't. At least 10 minutes pat before we asked and asked where the food was. Finally after a good 20 minutes went by still no food. Finally, the "manager" and I use that term loosely. Explained that original food got burnt. Lame excuses don't make up for incompetence. Please don't waste your time or money. The food that I did get was nothing to write home about. Had to put one...
