Thanks for the response!
My burger was great, my appetizer was great, and the server was exceptional. I just can't find the value here. For a casual downtown spot they have insanely high prices. I don't mind higher prices, but give me value. A small amount of bacon, few tiny pieces of pork belly, and maybe 2 pickles worth of fried pickles isn't worth it. They were all great, but when sharing with a large group you expect pub apps to have a shareable portion. Not here!
I think what bothered me the most were the drink prices. Usually if you get a craft beer at a restaurant you pay a premium. However, the craft is usually draft. I dont mind because there's added cost to maintaining lines and taps. Here, it's just cans. You'd think they lower the markup though considering a 4 pack is between 12 and 16 bucks(I'm sure they get a bulk discount)... Nope! Expect to pay $10/can.
Again, my food was great but my wife wasn't so lucky. She wanted to order a burger, but she got steak tips due to shortage (I'll get to that). $21 for 5 tiny tips that were brutally over cooked. There's that poor value again... I'm not expecting them to be award winning tips, but it was like they didn't even try.
My wife wasn't asked for preferred doneness and well was chosen for her. She wanted to send it back, but the shortage I mentioned earlier made our food take longer and come out at different times. She wanted a burger with onion rings and there were none. So she changed her order, as did others with us, and the food started coming out at completely different times. I don't blame the restaurant for this... But we go back to value. We weren't offered any sort of discount or comp for something that not only caused my wife to get a terrible meal, but also led to her watching others eat while waiting for her food.
The ceasar salad croutons were also pretty spicy. I like spicy, but not everyone does and there was no notification of spice in a place where it's nornally not expected, like a crouton. My wife ordered the salad and doesn't enjoy spicy food. Luckily, I ate the first crouton. The dressing was unique. I liked it, she did not. If you're looking for a standard ceasar, this isn't it. If you're adventurous, it's great!
This review was very long winded.... I'd still give this place another shot and maybe change the rating if they wow me the 2nd time. Like I said, the burger WAS good. I just wish everything else...
Read moreI was pretty disappointed with this place. We were told by friends that this place is awesome, the food is amazing. So we went with said friends and I left feeling frustrated. The menu is very small and I was having a hard time deciding on what to get. There were a few things that sounded good, I landed on The Big Rig and a side of onion rings. Turned out, they were all out of onion rings. The burger I ordered comes with an onion ring on top and I was definitely craving onion rings. Ok, not much I can do about that. Disappointing but I decided to try the steak tips with a ceasar salad. Well, my meal came out last and when I saw it I was like, this is it? Are you kidding me? There were like 5 teeny tiny pieces of steak tips, COOKED TO DEATH on my plate hidden under some arugula or something and a big pile of fries. I had realized that the waiter never asked me how I wanted the steak cooked but instead of cooking them well done, the cook should've had the waiter come out and ask me how I wanted them. I was starving at that point cause we had already been there a while and like I said, my meal came out last. I ate it for that reason only. My ceasar salad was big but it did not taste like a ceasar salad and the croutons it came with were spicy (I actually didn't eat them cause my husband tried one and told me they're spicy which I find odd). I didn't really eat the salad, but my husband liked it and ate the whole thing. I felt the dressing tasted like mayo or something I also got a Rum Punch to drink and it was good but small and mostly ice. My husband got a burger and fries and he enjoyed them but definitely felt they weren't worth the price. At the end of it all, our bill came to $90 after tip which is INSANE to me!! $11 for a small drink that was mostly ice, $10 for 1 can of beer, $21 for 5 teeny tiny over cooked pieces of leather and $17 for a burger and fries. Sorry, not worth it in the least bit. I will say, our waiter was great. Very friendly and funny and did a great job keeping up with our group. Other than that, I was not impressed and would...
Read moreTried The Hidden Pig for the first time and it definitely won't be my last.
We arrived at 6pm with a reservation and were immediately seated. This location is downtown, and streetside is available. The overall restaurant space is on the smaller size but was grateful the tables were a decent distance apart.
Our waitress immediately greeted us with a genuine smile and took our drink orders. I ordered a Mango Margarita and my companion ordered The Last Straw. Both drinks were very good but companion noted that when she had The Last Straw in their Nashua location, the Strawberries were muddled, which she preferred. The Bacon Board we ordered was just spectacular. It was accompanied by some sliced baguette and a smoked bacon shallot jam, which I could've eaten all on its own (note to self: learn how to make the bacon shallot jam). For dinner, I ordered the Big Bad Wolf burger. They nailed the medium rare perfectly. This is a burger I could order every single time. With pork belly maple confit and a blueberry jam on it, it was a party in my mouth. Companion ordered The Sweet Chili Chicken Rice. While it was a but spicy for her tastes, I sampled and thought it was exactly how I would have expected it to be. This was a well balanced rice dish.
All in all, just a fabulous meal and heartily recommend to others. Can't...
