The first weekend I moved to Haverhill, I stepped in to practice in-studio for the first time since late summer of 2020. The sign was in a blink-and-miss-it spot next to the Tap, and the location looked like a hole in the wall from the outside. The nerves were real! But when I stepped inside, I was immediately greeted with a welcoming atmosphere in the lobby, along with staff that gave off some seriously good vibes. I stepped in to the studio space, and unfurled my mat to join my first class in this highly breathable room.
With the way my schedule works, only one teacher sees me regularly; another is recurrent; and the rest have only ever had me once or twice as I’m writing this. But every one of them has been an absolute gem. Ally, the owner and also one of the aforementioned teachers, seems to liven up the room when she steps in. It’s abundantly clear to me she made sure her staff follows suit.
Now, in a span of 11 weeks and change, I’ve made it a point to go at least once, twice, or even three times a week if I’m really lucky with my schedule. And it’s not just because my body wants it - though that certainly helps motivate me! It’s because it allows me to just reset from the world. That is what has made this studio so transformative to me, as I’ve naturally developed that intention, and never thought how necessary it was for me when practicing yoga previously. This place is doing me right.
It is a space that genuinely loves their clientele, as evidenced by the very kind birthday card Ally left for me last month. It is a space that genuinely wants to keep their clientele safe.
