This is not a friendly place. Service was horrible from the begining. Asked about wait time. Told us had to go online to get on the wait list. So you go online sign up for the wait list, then you get a message you have to check in with the host to be added to the wait list. Well okay ... Waited for 20min before a server ever approached the table once we were seated. Took our drink order and wanted to leave we politely told him everyone was ready to order as we had already had enough time to decide. Plates took About 30min to come out as we were a party of 6. Most people thought their food was just okay. Over cooked and bland seemed to be the key words. We did send the loco moco back after a single bite (seems other on here have said the same thing). It was cold, gravy was watery and tasteless, eggs that were ordered were cooked wrong. No biggie those things happened. However, the bill comes and the waiter did not take the loco moco off. We asked and he told us he could not as the food was served. Told him we only took 1 bite. He said he was not allowed it was against policy. Asked to talk to the manger. She came out with strong attitude and said she was not going to take the item off as they were not in the practice of giving away free food. We explained that the food did not taste good and no one ate it as only one bite was taken and then the dish was given back to the server. She said fine I will take it off but you are NEVER allowed back in the restaurant. Don't come back! Really? Over one dish that was not good. Owners and management need some serious training. Our table was right by the busing station we could over hear the bussers and wait staff complaining about back of house etc. Workers definitely look defeated and it shows with the lack of enthusiasm and demeanor towards customers. What business does not empower their employees to make it right for the customer. It's not like we sent all 6 dishes back. Also, in the hour and a half plus we were there, not one server checked on us, offer to refill the drinks teas, water, sodas etc.. In our opinion go on down the road find...
Read moreI am genuinely surprised by the average high rating that this restaurant has. While the staff was friendly and the food came out quickly, I would not say it was worth the wait. It is seemingly one of the only breakfast-y restaurants in Kapaa, and it offers a pretty basic greasy spoon menu with an island twist!
I ordered the Avocado, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich and I convinced my husband to order the Traditional Loco Moco from the Kountry Favorites section of the menu. I also ordered a side of rice just for something a little extra to eat with my sandwich. The biggest takeaway I can say for what we had is that flavor and seasoning was missing entirely across the board. You can see it in the photo of my breakfast sandwich, but there was no seasoning to be found - not even pepper. It was quite bland and really could have been elevated by the addition of a simple sauce. I was also disappointed for my husband because I hyped up how popular of a dish the Loco Moco is and he ended up experiencing the same lack of flavor.
I am very understanding that food on the island will usually be more expensive, but I do find the prices hard to justify for how simple and underwhelming the meal was. Aside from the meal, I do have some comments regarding the dining area. The tables felt packed pretty closely to one another - we had five of us dining in our group and they threw a chair at the end of a four top table for us. The space in the walkway really did not allow comfortably for that. Additionally, there was one working bathroom in the entire restaurant as the men's restroom was closed. This clogged up the space in the dining area as well as there were many people waiting for the entirety of the time we spent here.
I'm hoping that this experience really was a one-off atypical dining experience that one might have at Kountry Kitchen. From looking at some of the other reviews on here, I'm thinking that maybe the downfall of the meal can be summed up to bad ordering as some other menu items look much better than what we received. I will look forward to the opportunity to try something else...
Read moreWe were referred by a friend when we asked for a hometown breakfast place with classic favorites with an Island flare and this little gem nailed it for us. Sorry no pictures of food as it was SO good that we devoured it!
First, service was super fast and they seem to know how to knock out food quickly which I love. Very friendly staff, the place itself is cute, but very diner style, no frills or anything fancy there.
Parking wasn’t as fun which is what I wanted to show in the video. There isn’t really any dedicated parking and the road is kind of busy! If you can get lucky and park right out in front, great. But otherwise there is a parking lot across the street and a few make shift spaces along the street. I found this pay parking thing next door, but I would not recommend it as it looked sketchy. Point being, you can find parking around, but might have to walk a bit on a busy weekend or holiday. It’s worth it!
OK on to the food! They have a big menu with lots of options. You can choose to make your own omelette or choose from the ones on the menu. We made our own omelette and chose hash browns and the homemade cornbread for our sides. The cornbread is a must try! It is clearly homemade, and it honestly didn’t need anything at all. It was served with a side of butter, but it’s moist, sweet and delicious just as it is. Sweet, but not too sweet to balance out the meal. We also go the French toast and it came with 2 giant pieces of bread. Wow was it good too! The thick Hawaiian bread with their special homemade coconut syrup was everything it promised to be! My daughter didn’t want breakfast, but they have a kids menu and she was able to order a grilled cheese and it came on the same giant bread that my French toast came on so that was a nice surprise! We were able to take home leftovers as her sandwich was huge!
Prices weren’t bad for the large portions you get. You will be spending about $11 each on the low end and $20 each on the high end without drinks. But you will leave very fully and with...
