Familee Korean Shave Ice — Restaurant in Hawaii

Bingsoo from Familee was SO GOOD!! Best shave ice in Kauai and easily my top 3 bingsoo spot in the country (and trust me, I’ve had most of them). What makes a Korean shave ice stand out is the texture, and I think they NAILED IT with an amazing soft fluffy powdery snow texture with just the right amount of sweetness. It also hits different in the most amazing way when you are getting top quality Korean bingsoo in Kauai from a food truck rather than at an establishment in Ktown in LA or in NYC after waiting in line tbh.

I tried the OG and the Sweet Kamja (Ube) and they were both amazing! My wife is pregnant and she usually can’t take any artificial/cheap ingredients when it comes to desserts, but she was able to enjoy them both! My 3 year old son also LOVED the bingsoo he was slurping both bowls and wanted more! The couple that runs the truck are so sweet, and from what I can tell they don’t cut any corners when it comes to ingredients/product. I usually don’t like azuki beans in my shave ice, but theirs was so good I kinda wanted more (the couple makes it at home apparently). I also love that they do Kama’aina discounts for the locals.

My family and I come to Kauai often and we were delighted to find authentic, Korean bingsu this time around.

We came multiple times during our trip this December and tried “Appa’s Injeolmi,” “The Sweet Kamja,” and the grapefruit special. All of them were unique and so delicious!

You can really taste the quality of the bingsu and a lot of the ingredients they use are organic/good quality. I especially enjoyed the sweetened red beans - which you could tell are made in-house and not canned!

They also have specials depending on what fruits are currently in season. I was lucky to be there for the grapefruit bingsu (my favorite fruit). They got their grapefruit straight from a local farm — it was sooo refreshing and delicious, with generous chunks of grapefruit! It was one of the most unique bingsus I’ve ever tried.

The owners were kind and friendly folks. We will definitely be making this an essential stop every time we come back to Kauai....

It's so great to watch this couple grow. We've been there since day 1 as they bought our old food truck. Tim and Jess are some of the nicest and most genuine people you'll ever meet and to top it off they also make some of the best shave ice EVER.

Our favorites are the Umma's Caffeine Fix (housemade coffee syrup, freshly ground local coffee beans, organic cacao powder, housemade sweetened red beans and local granola) and the O.G (housemade sweetened organic red beans, mochi and condensed milk). Our kids love the Mama Bear (chocolate syrup, organic cacao powder and Oreo crumbles) There's something for everyone on the rotating menu.
