This place is wonderful. I've eaten here many times and even worked at the Coconut place for a brief time.
I appreciate that they do not use oils of any kind in the meats. It's all fresh and very healthy.
Chicken 'n Barrel gave out free food on Christmas Day; this year it was Lau Lau, and my wife and I enjoyed the plate lunch right on the beach. Heck, even Mark Zuckerberg was voluntarily scooping rice. They had music and were giving out gifts to kids.
I love how the owners are unapologetically followers of Christ. They don't hide nor are they ashamed of their faith. God bless that!
I ordered at the Kapaa location across the community center. The order for three plates was around $55, which, to be honest, isn't bad for Kauai. I was stuffed after the chicken plate, and my brother loved the ribs and chicken. They even allowed us to choose between white or dark meat. Don't forget the BBQ sauce, and yes, the hot sauce will make your nose run.
The two gentlemen, one uncle and one brudda, were very pleasant. I called in my order over the phone and drove from my house, which is very near, and it was ready for me. This was on Friday at around 0530pm.
As a local, I have eaten at many restaurants here, but CnB offers good value, and you don't feel gross afterward. Honestly, it's hands down my favorite restaurant.
If you eat at the Kapaa locations, both are very near the beach. The one at the Coconut Market Place serves booze if that's your jam, while the other does not, but the beach is right there along the bike path.
Thanks again to the two gentlemen who made my food so delicious. I know they work hard, and working for a restaurant isn't easy. I appreciate all those involved for this yet again wonderful experience.
Tip them in...
Read moreBottom line: the rice was so mushy that it melted, the mac salad was al dente, our delivery was cold (which we expected), we received attitude over the phone, and did not receive our entire order. Im giving this a 2 star because ive eaten here before and know that the chx is bomb and usually the fish tacos are too. This time was the first time we ordered delivery. I got my son a chx burger which includes a side and it gave me an option to add a bag of chips.. We did not recieve the chips. We did not recieve the side of mac salad we asked for. And my husbands pulled pork salad did not come with the rice we asked for. My tacos were great but the tortillas looked right out of the bag and not heated prior. They were very careless this time. When i tried calling no one answered after 15 minutes. After 30 minutes, i finally received a call back. I told him the situation and he offered no solution but to deliver the rest. I said ok and immediately got attitude from the worker. So about 5 minutes later, i call back and get hung up on and got a call from a random number. He said "yea i got a phone call about a bag of chips or something". I told him to just refund it. He said "ok". I received no apology. After 70$, and the quality after delivery, i wish i had gone somewhere else... Its sad that i had to write this review, we are usually...
Read moreScandals!!! My friend and I were walking by Chicken in a Barrel BBQ in Kapaa at Coconut Square and noticed that there was a beer we wanted to try at the self service bar so we went in and opened up a tab. We each got a glass and went to get our drink. The beer we came in to try was out so we returned our glasses and closed the tab. A little while later I checked my bank account and noticed that I had been charged $70 in two $35 transactions and the money was out of my account. I went back to ask for my money back and the person working there was extremely unhelpful, unsanitary and unprofessional, saying that he didn’t believe me and there was nothing he could do. His hands were unwashed and covered in grease. When the money was still out of my account the next day, I had to call my bank and try to sort it out but the $70 would take a few days more to get back in my account. I’m on a tight budget and on short vacation to the island so this was detrimental to my experience on Kauai. When I tried to contact the business to speak with a manager, the phone number goes directly to a voicemail that is not set up. Unless you’re ready to pay unexpected fees and potentially deal with incompetent employees, you’re much better off going...
