Indispensable food and drinks on the journey 🍭 Hawaii Food Guide Many people love to eat Japanese cuisine in Hawaii, but even that can get tiring after a while. Actually, any random place in Hawaii, whether it's American, Thai, Italian, or even a beachside food truck, can satisfy my picky taste buds. 🏝Honolulu: Marugame Udon + Food trucks near Koko Head Beach + Random roadside Japanese food + Maile’s Thai + Furusato Sushi + Tonkotsu Volcano + Seoul Jung Restaurant On the first day in Honolulu, I went to the highly-rated Marugame Udon near my hotel on Yelp. I waited in line for an hour, and it wasn't worth it at all. For a girl from Chongqing who grew up eating small noodles, this udon wasn't even as good as Ajisen Ramen, it was watery and bland 😖. The price was cheap, but I felt bad about wasting my time in line. Other: Food trucks are purely for the experience, so I didn't care much about the taste or environment. For Japanese and Korean food, I just picked randomly, as there are many highly-rated places on Yelp. I recommend Maile’s Thai, their pad thai is the second best I've ever had (the first being from a place in Hilo). The server guy there is super handsome. 🏄🏻‍♀️Big Island: Cafe Pesto Holo Bay + Bento from a gas station + Sombat’s Fresh Thai Cuisine + Umeke’s + Suisan fish market On the Big Island, I ate more casually, mostly relying on Yelp to find highly-rated restaurants. The bento was noteworthy, cheap and delicious, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The best pad thai I've ever had was at Sombats, a hundred times better than the ones in Boston! Also, the seafood rice at Umeke’s and Suisan fish market was so fresh, I could finish a bowl in no time. Additionally, there was the non-stop beer trip on the island. Friends who love to drink must try the local beer. Eating delicious food and drinking beer with the sea breeze is the most relaxing way to travel! #Hawaii #HawaiiTravel #BigIsland #Honolulu #MyFoodDiary #HawaiiFood #MyIslandTravelGuide @薯队长

Best. Poke. Bowl. Ever. I don't think I've ever had tuna this good. You would usually expect just a thin layer of tuna on a huge bed of rice, but in this poke bowl, the amount of tuna seemed to be as much as the rice, and I LOVED IT! The price was great for the value. It was so good that we decided to get another one half way through the poke bowl, but it was sold out, so we got 2 other items, an octopus salad and a tuna roll. We literally inhaled everything in 10 minutes and forgot to take a picture of the whole meal. Everything was insanely good, and as a sushi/sashimi fan, I'd say the quality of the food here is way better than most mid range restaurants, with the price of takeouts.

I work down the street and finally stopped in this place. Employees were super friendly and welcoming, and sushi chef looked like he really knew what he was doing. I got a grab and go eel and avo roll and a salmon skin salad, totaling to about $16-17. Verdict: the food is divine. Freshest sushi I've had in Hilo yet. Will definitely be going back soon to try other menu items, including their fish selection, chirashi bowls, specials, etc. Looks next level. Very excited to have this place close by 🙌🏼🍣🍱 mahalo kitchen Umeko!

Small Japanese takeout restaurant with super fresh poke. The poke is unbelievably fresh and seasoned to perfection. I had the poke bowl with spicy and shoyu poke that came with sushi rice and seaweed salad. They also had bentos & sushi available. The staff (cashier and cook) were very helpful. I absolutely recommend giving...
