Yikes...
So to preface they close at 9pm and I showed up at 8pm (exact time was maybe 8:04ish). I noticed they had multiple tables and a large party of 20 in a private dining room so I didn't feel bad coming in an hour before close. I knew as a single individual I would be out of their much faster than the rest.
For starters I had been sitting less than 30s when the waiter tried to get my order. I politely let him know I needed a minute to read the menu. He left and returned approx 3 mins later. I picked out a few things and then started waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I end up going to the bathroom in the hopes the food would be ready by the time I return. As I passed the sushi counter the chefs were all gone for the night and it was all closed up. There was a single order of sushi with tickets sitting on the counter. I immediately knew it was mine, but at this point I was curious to see how long it took staff to bring me my order. Upon returning to my table I checked my phone and it was 8:38. I ended up waiting another 5 mins before someone (not my waiter) brought me my food.
The food was lackluster and tiny. The soft shell crab was terrible and the surfclam was dried out and I would venture a guess that it was no longer sushi grade fresh.
I ate quickly and was asked by a different waiter if I wanted dessert to which I replied no just the check. I then began the process of waiting some more. I was able to browse all my reddit threads and my entire news feed before I got fed up and went to front desk to ask to pay. It was on my walk there that my original waiter is walking to me with the check...
I don't say this lightly since I'm an 11 year hospitality veteran myself. However the fact I tipped anything was purely out of habit and this waiter didn't deserve a dime of it, but I left him 10% and left as quickly as possible and am now typing this in the parking lot at 9:15pm. There were still 4 other tables inside when I left, so no I wasn't the last one by any stretch of the imagination.
Bottom line I wouldn't dine here again even if the meal was comped. The food isn't worth it and the staff is extremely...
Read moreFinally got to Restaurant Miwa! My partner won a gift certificate for $50 from my Federal Credit Union, and we had a wonderfully delightful time. As of July '22 masks are required to enter. We did not have reservations, so we got the table by the restrooms and kitchen. Service is mellow, not rushed or particularly fast, but this makes for a nice pace for the experience. This is a family owned business, local, with photos of family on the walls. We opted for water only, shared a calamari to start, and had three excellent rolls. Simple presentation, fresh inredients. Unlimited piping hot green tea is served on the house with your meal. Yum. The most creative and tasty roll we tried was teriyaki beef with...
Read moreTotal rip-off. If you want good Sushi do not come here. You will find better Sushi at 7-11 or ABC stores(for people who live on Oahu) . I also asked for a baked potato on the side. The potato was to come with the works. Instead they brought out a small half of a microwaved potato with what looked like Velveeta cheese melted on top. They wanted $5 for the half of the small potato. I sent the potato back. I should have sent whole dinner back and gone to MacDonald's for a much better meal. Do not waste your money...
