Eggs Benedict ($10.95, available on Sundays for brunch) starts with a house-made English muffin topped with Canadian bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and served with breakfast potatoes and fresh papaya. This was the first time I ever had a house-made English muffin and absolutely loved it. It was thick and held up well to the runny yolk and hollandaise. The poached eggs were perfect with yolk flowing like lava. The hollandaise was silky like it should be and very light on the lemon juice just how I like it. The breakfast potatoes were much different than what I see on the mainland which are usually underdone/overdone and bland, but these potatoes had a baked potato flavor with a smashed potato texture and simple seasoning. Rating: 5/5 Herb Roasted Chicken Panini Sandwich ($9.75) is made with thinly sliced herb roasted chicken, house-made basil pesto, mozzarella cheese, roasted red bell peppers, and organic local greens atop house-made focaccia bread. This was a beautiful panini with grill lines from the press, contrasting colors from the bread, and the green from the pesto and greens. It was a refreshing sandwich right down to the fresh local produce. The pesto was just strong enough in flavor yet lets the herb roasted chicken shine through. The focaccia bread had a perfectly formed crust on the outside yet is spongy on the inside. Rating: 5/5 Portuguese Sweet Bread ($6) gave my mom the chills when she tried it. It took her back to her childhood when her mom brought back sweet bread from Buck’s Bakery in Honolulu. This was a bread that was sold as a fundraiser and folks would rapidly buy them up. It had a different look and taste from King’s Hawaiian, yellow interior probably from more yolks and a spice that gave it a special flavor and aroma. Maria did a lot of research on old Portuguese sweet breads and came up with a recipe that is so onolicious. It had a beautiful golden-brown exterior with light yellow, fluffy interior. Next time, I’m going to buy a bunch of these so I can take them home with me. Rating: 5/5 Lilikoi Bar ($3.25) reminded me of a lemon bar, sweet and tart, but with a lilikoi (passion fruit) curd on top. It was just so Hawaii and so ono! Rating: 5/5 Kohala Crunch Bar ($4.95) is a creative dessert combining chocolate mousse and candy bar into one. It had sweet, rich, chocolate flavor and a nice contrast of silky mousse on top and crispy, candy-like texture on the bottom. Perfect for the chocoholic! Rating: 5/5 Hilo Bar ($2.75) is another creative dessert combining oatmeal cookie crust with chess pie like filling with macadamia nuts. It tasted like something your grandma would make. So good! Rating: 5/5

I don’t usually leave reviews but I had to for this one. Called the store and they put me on hold and simply forgot about me. Had to call back for my questions and decided to stop by the shop and it was completely empty. there was not a single customer inside. I got the last 6” cake… it was $75?!!… ridiculously overcharged. Asked them to write a message on the cake and they made we wait 20 min even though I was the only customer there. I thought they were waiting for the best writer or something so I was just patiently waiting. when they brought it back out, I was expecting some top notch handwriting but this, in the picture, is what I got. Absolutely horrendous!! makes me want to puke looking at it. So mad and sad. 0/10 recommend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Replying to the response from the owner: The transaction was done well before the cake came out. The cake didn't seem salvageable since it would've been the same person rewriting the message. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy either if you had to pay almost $100 for a cake for it to come out looking like this.

This is my first ever review on google but I just felt like I finally needed to, as this was long over due. Short n sweet bakery is my go-to place for breakfast, lunch, and dessert! Highly recommend the chicken bacon ranch salad + the herb roasted chicken panini. SO SO good. Macrons are the best in Hilo! No where else compares, they have so many flavors and choices. Lilikoi cheesecake is simply amazing as well, just a few of my faves when I stop by. And I’ve been coming to this small little gem for YEARS now, I wanna say since about 2014 maybe, and one thing they have is CONSISTENCY. The food is always good, always fresh and always the same, which I love! Love supporting local! A must if you’re in downtown Hilo. I live about 45 mins away, but it’s always worth the trip for me and my family. They have also helped with a family wedding of mine a few months ago. Everything was perfect and the bride was thrilled! Stop by and try, you’ll thank me later.

The management is very rude and lies then takes delight in their lie ; laughing at us as me ans my 80 year old friend were kicked out in the rudest way. We asked if we could sit in their outdoor sitting area on the curb since they removed their 3 tables that used to be in their outdoor sitting area but no longer are. Because of covid times. . We were eating our sandwich and drinking g our (bad) coffee after spending $55 on lunch . The manager told us we were welcome to sit on the patio . My 84 year old friend and I were just yelled at told that they would call the police if we didn't leave Evan tho we were packing out stuff up . The manager told the owner a lie that she did not say we could sit there but she did say yes we could sit there - we would not have sat there if she said we couldn't . We were going to take our lunch to a park . My elderly friend was showing me baby pictures of her nee great grandson when the owner came out ans didn't ask us nicely to take out lunch elsewhere . She told us we were lying ans that she would call the police on us . We were trying to pack up our salad , sandwiches ans drinks but every ten seconds the owner kept saying to leave the premises Evan tho we were leaving. It felt like harassment . It was so unprofessional and very extremely rude . I was taught that in a hospitality service that the customer is right ...or at least show care and respect for your customer so that they will feel Comfortable and treated right ; treated good Evan so that they will want to come back and patronize your establishment. I would have loved to say something great about them to My friends ans on this review today. I was treated so bad and so was my elderly friend . That I will never come back to eat there and I will tell all my friends also how bad the treatment . My 84 year old friend was scared from the threats of police ans she doesn’t u dear and why they would tell us to sit there and then come out while we are eating to be yelled at and threatened In The worst way while they laughed at us ..!! I will next go on Yelp and google and write how the manager lied to us and then laughed at us as we were being kicked out. Like a seditious person that takes delight in causing people's agony. The worst part Was the fact that I stated to the girl working that we didn't want to sound rude but wanted to ask in the nicest way possible if we could sit there .. it was our intention to be as kind as could be to the staff while asking if seating will be coming back ans if we could sit on the curb there .... we wanted to also be treated with the same Politeness. I even stated that I wanted to say it on the nicest way so not to sound rude .!!!! I did not get the same respect or courtesy !!! And the sandwich was bland - had no flavor and the coffee tastes like...
