This is one of those rare reviews where I wish the scale went above 5 stars. This place was absolutely amazing.

For me, everything starts, revolves around and finishes with service. At every opportunity, the crew at KG surpassed expectations.

To begin with, my wife and I walked through the door at 6 PM on a Friday. The place was packed. Despite this, we were greeted in less than 15 seconds and seated almost immediately. The hostess gave us the expansive menu and immediately provided us with our waters. I drained mine very shortly after she left and before I could get through the first page of the menu, another server asked me if I wanted more. This is a huge plus for me. Throughout the night neither my nor my wife's cup ran empty due to three separate servers keeping an eye on us.

We looked over the menu and had just decided on what we wanted when another server, Kip, came over. He said, "I'm not your server this evening, but I saw you waiting and just wanted to know if I could take your order for you." Another massive service plus. We ordered and asked for some suggestions. Kip, realizing we weren't local then asked us what we had been able to see and then started to offer some tips when he stopped himself mid sentence and said "Actually, let me put your food in so you aren't waiting and I'll be right back to tell you all about it." Amazing! He then put the orders in and followed through on his word and gave us a great spot we never would have found to view Kiluaea from a safe distance. Before bringing us our plates, Kip brought out their sauces and two to go sauce cups so we could try the sauces before putting them on our food. Totally above and beyond.

I can't rave enough about the service, but I'm sure you want to know about the food. I ordered a Yaki Loco with fried rice and my wife ordered a chicken katsu. We ordered an a la carte Laulau to try as well. The Yaki Loco was very tasty. Gravy was ordered on the side per Kip's recommendation. Good call. This was definitely comfort food. If you haven't tried spam (and I hadn't), don't be afraid of this dish. The spam in fried rice added nice flavor. The chicken was very tender and seasoned well. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the chicken katsu. It was also very tender and not dry and overcooked like it can be when not prepared well. The Laulau was delicious. The meat was juicy and flavorful. The taro leaves were so tender they just melted in my mouth. So glad we ordered that.

The dishes were very filling. We finished about half and then asked our third water refiller for to go boxes. She brought back the boxes and then, seeing that my wife had sauce leftover for her katsu, asked "Would you like a lid for that cup so you can take the sauce with you? " Again anticipating our needs before we voiced them. Every server tonight was amazing. She then offered to bring out the dessert tray. We normally pass on dessert, but were feeling very pleased with the dinner service, so we took a look. There were about 8 options and at least 6 of them were strong contenders for us. We decided on the macadamia nut cream pie over the oreos cream pie and snickers cream pie.

Two things - first this dessert was inexcusably good. It really just doesn't make any sense. Second, we ordered one to share - wise move. Portion size was very generous. I attached a picture, but we had already eaten half of it by the time I took the picture - and it's still huge.

When it was all said and done we were thanked until we walked out the door. An absolutely incredible experience at a price point that was more affordable than even Applebees with so much better quality.

I can't recommend this place enough. We'll be going back before we leave the island.
